My Food Travels – Spring Getaway 2017 to London, Ontario

Hi everyone!

Welcome back to my sweet foodie blog!! I’m back now!! Can you believe that it is August and half the summer is already over?? 😁 Summer is going by quickly, but we still have the rest of the month to enjoy these sunny and rainy days?? There seem to be more rainfall this year than normal, which I’m not too fond of. I hope that everyone is still enjoying their summer so far like me.

I decided to take a mini break from writing in July as I had a busy schedule with my mini summer getaway to Belleville and Kingston along with other activities like attending food festivals, watching baseball, spending time with my family and more. What have you guys been up to this summer?? Did anyone discover a new bakery that I can try?? You can leave me a comment below, I always love to hear from my readers.

Quick Update

Getting things back on track, I’m also working on a few ideas and looking for new delicious bakeries or restaurants or sharing with you my next foodie events in August as in August & September there are a few food festivals to attend that I’m looking forward to.

Don’t forget if you want the latest updates on my next blog post or to follow my foodie adventures, please follow me on Twitter @SweetBFoodie24 OR on Instagram where I’m posting a bit more stories now so you can check those out too @SweetBFoodie24. 2nd Feature – Food Travels in London, Ontario

My next feature in my Food Travels is in London, Ontario where I went to London for a mini getaway in the Spring time on the last week of May 2017. I haven’t been to London before even though I was born in Toronto, ON I am still discovering new cities within my province of Ontario. I love exploring new cities or towns so I was excited to go to London as I read and heard that London’s culinary scene is known for it’s local and seasonal food from farm to table and their outstanding farmer’s market and on the rise in a lot of their restaurants are plant-based cuisine. I was excited to explore what London’s vegan type of foods has to offer and esp discovering their vegan bakeries.

I look forward to sharing with you in this blog post more about my foodie adventures in London, ON. I love travelling in the Spring as well because that’s when warm weather is back after the winter and travelling in the Spring I find that it is less expensive than travelling in the summer. You can still enjoy warm weather with less crowd than the summer for sure. I always prefer to travel during off seasons than high peak seasons.

I travelled by VIA Rail Train to London, ON as with my 1st Feature to Kingston, ON (click here -> Fall Getaway 2016 to Kingston, Ontario ) I mentioned why I love travelling by travel, you can check out that post for more information. Overall, for me, it’s the easiest, comfortable and relaxing way to travel from Toronto to London or to any destination within Ontario or Quebec. I have yet to travel further yet but train for me is a good option for Ontario and Quebec areas. This year I love the signage for celebrating Canada’s special “Canada 150” year on the trains.

My Experience – Sightseeing

Overall, I enjoyed this small town feel in the city of London, Ontario for my mini Spring getaway. As I live in a big city in Toronto. I loved that London has a small and friendly town city feel with their downtown similar to Toronto easily accessible with shopping and variety of restaurants to choose from. I love the combination of the city life and nature surroundings in London with the Thames River and parks within the city.

With my short visit to London, I was able to visit a few of the main attractions including Covent Garden Market (which is a large market filled with fresh produce, shops, restaurants and a farmer’s market located in the heart of downtown London), Museum London, Eldon House Historic Site (located in downtown London’s oldest residence that has been preserved and maintained since 1960 and was donated to they city of London by the Harris family. It has the most beautiful gardens in the city.), Budweiser Gardens, visited a few parks including Victoria Park, Ivey Park along the Thames River, and Harris Park and of course visited a few bakery shops (details below my fave bakery shops).

There are still many more things to do and see in London, ON, which I would love to come back and visit again. I did quite a few things and visited and ate so much delicious foods and desserts in London lol…😄 in one short visit…😊 I left London feeling so full and satisfied my sweet cravings lol!! But in a good way!! It was a fun culinary foodie adventure in London and I look forward to my next visit!!

Hotel

I stayed at the Residence Inn by Marriott London Downtown hotel. It is conveniently located downtown London, Ontario on Colbourne Street at King Street making it easily accessible to the downtown core. It as only a 10 mins walk from the VIA Rail train station, which I was happy that I was able to get to the hotel by walking.

The Residence Inn London Downtown Hotel was recently renovated with a fresh, newly updated and modern bold look to the overall hotel and even the rooms. I been staying with the brand Residence Inn and Marriott and I always love their spacious rooms compared to other hotels. And this was no difference, I stayed in a 1 bedroom suite and loved how big and spacious the room was and loved the newly updated look. My bedroom was in a separate room on it’s own and love how the living room and kitchen in it’s own space. It felt cozy and right at home like a small apartment.

I loved the location of the hotel as I was able to take a bus or walk to most of the restaurants, shopping, and attractions within the hotel area. Other great features about the hotel are complimentary wifi and full American breakfast in the morning. Only negative is there was no pool in this hotel. As I love to swim especially in the evening after a day of exploring the city, that would have been nice. But I can’t complain as everything else about the hotel was exactly what I expected with a lot of great features.

The Lobby of Hotel

Most importantly, I had great customer service both at the front desk very friendly and welcoming when I first arrived and checking out along with any issues I had during my stay, which I didn’t. They were very helpful as well with any directions I needed within the downtown area.

Overall, another amazing stay with my fave brand – Marriott, this time staying at Residence Inn London Downtown. I highly recommend this hotel if you are planning a stay in London and especially great for longer stays with the spacious rooms making it feel more like home than a hotel with kitchenette, business center services available and lots of space to work.

They are continuing their focus on providing healthy options to their customers.

When I visited Organic Works Bakery, the Eldon House was still under construction on the outside, but was still able to locate it. I love this rustic and cozy bakery with so many options to choose from. Great customer service by the staff as well and very helpful explaining about their products as well. It was hard for me to choose, but chose the Vanilla Raspberry Swirl cupcake and took home a few organic apple oats cookies as I love cookies so how could I resist lol!! The cupcake was moist and soft, the frosting wasn’t too sweet, it was just perfect!! I loved the cupcake!! The apple oats cookies I took them home on the train ride to have a snack and it was delicious! I loved their outside signage, very cute with bright & bold colours! Despite the moving process, inside their old bakeshop, love the unique and cozy environment with the boomboxes as decorations and a combination of the music and baking! I had the Tropical Punch cupcake and definitely felt like it was a summery cupcake filled with sweetness. The cake of the cupcake was moist and not too sweet. I look forward to my next visit to The Boombox Bakeshop to check out their new location and see what it looks like along with sampling more of their cupcakes and other baked goods. That day I had lots of yummy food and desserts before going to the bakeshop so was a bit full lol!!

Easter Treats by Short & Sweet Bakeshop

Hi everyone,

Hope everyone had a relaxing and foodie during Easter weekend (April 15-16) celebrating with your family and friends. I love celebrating Easter at this time of year in April where it starts feeling like Spring with warm and sunny days ahead, flowers are starting to bloom, and it starts looking like Spring with colourful flowers, trees leaves and Easter eggs.

The best part of celebrating Easter is of course the delicious desserts after your huge dinner feast surrounded by your family and friends. It is the perfect excuse to savour some sweet desserts and at the same time sharing it with your family, which makes it sweeter to enjoy together.

During long Easter weekend, I stopped by Short & Sweet Bakeshop at their new location on Yonge Street located at Yonge and Davisville. I been to Short & Sweet Bakeshop a few times now at their Avenue Road location and enjoyed their delicious cupcakes. I thought it was perfect timing to finally stop at their new location on Yonge Street as they opened it earlier this year in January 2017.

For those who haven’t heard of Short & Sweet Bakeshop, here are a few quick facts about this sweet bakeshop.

  • Founded in December 2009 by Orli Levy
  • Their baked goods are handcrafted using only the finest ingredients
  • Freshly made everyday
  • 100% Nut Free Bakery
  • Offers cupcakes, custom cakes, sammies, cookies
  • Also offers gluten-free cupcakes
  • Cater Events such as weddings, baby showers, and more

I love the new location on Yonge Street as it is conveniently a short walk about 5 minutes from Yonge & Davisville intersection, easily accessible those taking transit. It is a cozy, bright and friendly bakeshop. I like the interior look with wooden tables and the fresh look with little plants on the tables making it feel like home. I love how the sun shines inside the bakeshop creating an uplifting and welcoming feeling.

I was greeted by two friendly staff at the counter. There were quite a few cupcake selections left even though it was in the late afternoon when I arrived so I got lucky as I know usually they sell out pretty quickly. It was hard to decide which one as they all looked so pretty and delicious to try.

I finally decided on 2 of their Easter theme cupcakes and the lemon Raspberry cupcake to share with my sisters. I love sharing my desserts with my sisters as it is always sweeter to share…:)

I ended up loving the lemon Raspberry cupcake as I love the surprise lemon filling inside the cupcake that made it so delicious! The cupcake itself was moist and soft. Overall, definitely would stop by again to Short & Sweet Bakeshop for more delicious cupcakes and other baked goods as I would love to try their cookies as some of you know, I love my cookies so hopefully next time I would get to sample one.

Even though Easter has come and gone, if you are looking for a delicious and sweet cupcake to satisfied your cupcake craving, I highly recommend stopping by Short & Sweet Bakeshop yourself to enjoy a pretty & sweet cupcake and see why I love these cupcakes.

For now, I leave you with these pretty & sweet cupcake thoughts and I’m off on my next search for my next sweet or maybe healthy dessert bakeshop or cafe.

Don’t forget to come back next month to see what I discover. Also you can get my latest updates for my upcoming blog posts or follow my food adventures through Twitter @SweetBFoodie24 OR Instagram @SweetBFoodie24 so you won’t miss a thing of my yummy foodie adventures.

Happy 3 Year Blog Anniversary!!!

Hi everyone!!

On this day, February 23 back in 2014, is when I first started this food blog site! I can’t believe it’s been 3 years now since I started this blog and taking a look back on how much I have grown from 3 years ago to now is something I didn’t expect.

I started this blog to share with everyone my love for food and more particularly my love for desserts and sweets. I couldn’t imagine how much my blog has grown within 3 years and how much I have grown in learning about food itself and my own food sensitivity with non-dairy products. I am still learning about the new “vegan” foods & desserts and discovering what my body can take. I still love my sweets & now share delicious yet healthy dessert places with my readers.

I am also happy and excited to share on my blog with my readers my passion for events and travel through attending Toronto foodie events & my travel experiences.

I have to thank Food Bloggers of Canada (website -> click here) for providing me a place to share and network with other Canadian bloggers as well as providing food blogging resources to assist me in the world of blogging. I continue to learn, network and grow within this friendly and amazing food community.

Of course, I wouldn’t be here without my readers, so I would like to take this time to THANK YOU each one of my amazing readers for letting me share my love for desserts, sweets, events, and travel with you!! I look forward to bringing you more sweetness and foodie adventures for many years to come!!!

On my 3rd Year Anniversary, I celebrated at one of my newly discovered fave vegan bakeshop, Tori’s Bakeshop. Tori’s Bakeshop is located in the Beaches area on Queen Street East. This bakeshop is an all-natural organic bakery that offers dairy-free, egg-free, and refined sugar-free treats and even carry a selection of gluten free products. Their bakery items range from breads, cakes, mini loaves, cookies, cupcakes, macarons, muffins and even croutons. Along with baked goods, Tori’s Bakeshop also has light healthy sandwiches for brunch/lunch. They also offer beverages such as tea & coffee as well.

I thought that this was the perfect spot to celebrate delicious sweets for my newly diet as a semi vegan now where I still enjoy yummy desserts, but with non-dairy products now.

I discovered Tori’s Bakeshop during the summer at one of the Vegan festivals and absolutely loved her delicious sweet treats. My sister and I sampled her delicious donuts.

I stopped by Tori’s Bakeshop on a warm & sunny winter weekend, it felt more like Spring weather as there were many people on the Queen street enjoying this beautiful weather. Tori’s Bakeshop is a cozy and welcoming bakeshop filled with a selection of delicious baked goods!! I couldn’t choose which sweet treat I wanted as each item looked so delicious! I ended up choosing a Strawberry Vanilla cupcake as cupcakes are one of my fave desserts and it was simply perfect, soft, moist and I loved the raspberry & strawberry filling inside, which tops the cupcake as one of the best I had. I also picked up a few shortbread cookies to go.

I will definitely be coming back to Tori’s Bakeshop for more delicious and sweet desserts as there are still lots that I haven’t even sample yet. If you haven’t been to Tori’s Bakeshop, I highly recommend you try this vegan and all natural, organic bakery. You don’t know what you are missing out on and will not be disappointed!!

I’m looking forward to continuing to share my food, events and travel adventures with you all!! I hope that you all will continue to join me in discovering new bakeries and restaurants along with sightseeing to new cities and countries for my travel foodie adventures!!

Cheers to many more sweet adventures & the years to come!!! 🍹🍰🎉

My Top 3 Best Dessert Places for Christmas Desserts

Season’s Greetings everyone!!

Happy Holidays to all my sweet readers!! This is my Christmas edition blog entry for this month in December as I can’t believe that Christmas is just around the corner and then it’s the end of the year for 2016. How fast did 2016 go by?? I hope that everyone is enjoying this Holiday Season so far with the warmer winter to now cold brrrr weather and with Toronto’s 1st big snowfall last week and more snow on the way, looks like winter is officially here. I actually love snow especially some during the Christmas time, it’s so pretty outside with the snow with the winter wonderland scenery. Winter means warm yummy desserts like warm apple cobblers and hot delicious baked cookies out of the oven to warm you up.

A quick update on a few things I have going on before we continue with my Christmas edition blog entry, the project that I was working on unfortunately will be delayed til the New Year 2017 hoping to get it done for January 2017 so please bare with me. It’s been a busy Holiday season working at my Admin job and working on a few changes that’s why. I hope that you guys (my readers) will be a bit more patient with me until things are more settled down. I am looking forward to new things happening for 2017 for this blog. I will be posting my Year In Review for 2016 mid-to-end of January 2017 unlike others who does it in December, as I have more time to work on it and share my new beginnings in 2017. Please come back again in January 2017 to read what you missed or a recap of my 2016!!

With Christmas around the corner, this is always a busy time of year for most people and if you are looking for desserts, treats or baked goods for either your Holiday parties or Christmas dinners or any Holiday event is, here are my Top 3 Best Desserts Shops that I highly recommend you should go to:

Mad Batter Bakers

Location: 135 Jefferson Avenue, Toronto (Liberty Village area)

Website: www.madbatterbakers.com

Social Media: Facebook @MadBatterBakers, Twitter @MadBatterBakers and Instagram @madbatterbakers.

Last year I recommended Mad Batter Bakers and this year is no difference, they are my absolutely fave and must stop during this Christmas season as they have the best soft & delicious gingerbread cookies. Gingerbread cookies always makes me feel like it’s Christmas and time for the Holiday season spirit. Besides how delicious their cookies taste, their cookies look so pretty too, I simply love their not overly sweet icing on their cookies as some places make the icings really sweet. Mad Batter Bakers also offer Old Fashioned Sugar Cookies. Some new items that they have added recently are the gingerbread house to build and their adorable Mug Mates (picture below). They also now have these cute pins, it’s a must buy as I got one myself…:)

For those who don’t know, I first discovered Mad Batter Bakers at the One of a Kind Christmas Show a few years ago and ever since then I don’t go anywhere else for my soft & delicious Gingerbread cookies. It is a must stop at my fave cookie shop, the Mad Batter Bakers booth at my Annual tradition of attending the One of A Kind Christmas Show to get their soft delicious Gingerbread cookies.  If you can’t stop by at the show, they also have a booth at the Spring One of A Kind Show in March or you definitely stop by at their bakery shop located in the Liberty Village district in Toronto. See photos below of their booth at the One of a Kind Christmas Show.

My Goodies from Mad Batter Bakers from the One of a Kind Christmas Show

This year, I finally got to visit their cozy and warm friendly shop. I love when you first walk in the door, there is a beautiful aroma smell of the most delicious sweet gingerbread flavor. There is a large selection of different gingerbread cookies to choose from, it is always so hard for me to pick. You can’t leave the store without having a delicious sample as well!! It is always a pleasure speaking with the owner and the amazing customer service I receive every time I visit her booth at the shows and at the store as well. I love their cute chalkboard signs that they do! See below my photos from her bake shop.

So if you are looking for the best gingerbread cookies in Toronto, don’t look further than Mad Batter Bakers, come by visit this quaint bakery shop for yourself to see what I’m talking about. It surely will not disappoint you!! It is worth the trip to visit and taste these amazing cookies.

Pusateri’s – Saks Food Hall at Eaton Centre

Location: 176 Yonge Street, Toronto, ON (downtown area)

Website: www.pusateris.com

Social Media: Facebook @Pusateris, Twitter @PusaterisFoods and Instagram @pusaterisfoods.

My next recommend is Pusateri’s – Saks Food Hall at Eaton Centre as a few weeks ago I discovered this brand new high-end food hall, which spans about 25,000 sq.ft. It is very impressive food hall with the high-end finishes and serving high-quality food. Pusateri’s has recently (Nov 2016) expanded to the downtown core within the Hudson’s Bay building located in the basement of Saks Fifth Avenue at Queen and Yonge. While this is their 2nd location, their 1st location is at Sherway Gardens if that location is closer for you to check out.

It is a large space devoted to on-the-go food and catering, which includes pizza, sushi, seafood and rotisserie counters, the butcher features a wide selection of prepared sandwiches, and it even includes a champagne bar. It also has a grocery store within this large space, which is great for after work shopping.

Pusateri’s – Saks Food Hall at Eaton Centre has a large selection of delicious desserts to choose from. That’s why I’m recommending them as with their large variety of desserts from cakes, macarons, tarts, cookies, pastries and more that there is a dessert for everyone. Their desserts are high-quality and delicious as I have tasted a few myself that day as I couldn’t choose what desserts to have. I decided on the Oatmeal Walnut Cranberry cookie and it was simply delicious, it was a soft-chewy cookie, which was made perfectly. If you love thumbprint cookies, I had the Raspberry one and loved it!! They make amazing and fresh homemade cookies here, I highly recommend you coming by to try some!!

My yummy cookies I got

Their selection of cakes and mini cakelets are perfect for Christmas desserts for any number of people especially if you are looking for last minute ideas. The hours of operation at this location opens late enough that you can come down to get your desserts after work as well. Please check their website for the hours of operations.

Despite the busy Holiday season and on a weekend, their customer service at the counter was friendly and efficient as when I was there on a weekend. They were very organized and quick to take the orders and attentive to each person’s needs.

With Pusateri’s – Saks Food Hall array of variety, delicious and high-end desserts, I would definitely recommend to check out this Pusateri’s location to get your desserts for your Christmas dinner, any events, parties or even for New Year’s.

Nadège Patisserie

Location: 3401 Dufferin Street, Toronto, ON

Website: www.nadege-patisserie.com

Social Media: Facebook @NadegePatisserie, Twitter @NadegeToronto and Instagram @nadegetoronto.

My last recommendation is Nadège Patisserie at their newest location at Yorkdale mall. This is her 4th location that Nadège has opened in Toronto since her first location opened in 2009 on Queen Street West. Nadège has a French background where she was born in France. The dessert creations are prepared by Nadège, a fourth-generation pastry chef from Lyon, France known for her modern art dessert creations.

Nadège Patisserie is located in the new section of Yorkdale where Nordstrom is also located. It is a pretty big concept location for Nadège Patisserie making it enough space for a large variety of desserts and a small section for seating area. When I was there, it was quite busy as I am not surprised with her delicious looking desserts, it is no wonder people are there to enjoy the sweet desserts while shopping. It is not just how beautiful it looks, the quality and taste of her desserts matches what it looks like.

Nadège Patisserie main feature are the elegant & delicious macarons as well they offer Petit Choux, tarts, cakes (different sizes), savoury options include sandwiches, pies, and more!! Perfect for the Holiday season is her Holiday collection that includes Yule Logs, Holiday shaped chocolates, candy cane bark, box of Holiday chocolate bonbons and more. The Holiday collection is also beautifully packaged so it makes it easy to give it as a gift.

They also do catering for events by Nadège where they offer à la carte collection includes all the beautiful bites you’ll need to host the perfect office luncheon, team breakfast or breathtaking high tea! Ideal for holiday entertaining, corporate meeting or any event that you are planning!

With the large selection of desserts to choose from, I decided on my fave type of dessert, which is macarons of course, so bought a box of 6 to try and share with my sisters (who also love macarons) and tried my 1st Petit Choux, I sampled the Strawberry one and wow it is hard to describe in words how delicious this puff pastry is. It was very light and airy, but in the centre there was a strawberry filling which was amazing, perfect sweetness. I loved it!! I love how light this pastry was. I’m definitely coming back for another Petit Choux!! It will not be my last one lol!!

The macarons I really enjoyed them, it wasn’t too sweet and as I eat a lot of macarons at different bakery that I now know what a good macaron is now. This is one of them! 🙂

If you are looking for some elegant, modern and delicious variety of desserts for last minute Christmas gifts or desserts for Christmas dinner or treats for New Year’s Eve even, I highly recommend Nadège Patisserie at their Yorkdale location. Or if their other 3 locations are closer, I suggest you check it out.

christmas-snowman-dividers-1christmas-snowman-dividers-1

If you are looking for Christmas treats, desserts, bakery items, or Christmas gifts, please check out my Top 3 Dessert/Bakery shops: Mad Batter BakersPusateri’s – Saks Food Hall, and Nadège Patisserie as they offer the most delicious desserts & bakery items in Toronto.  With my experience with each bakery I would definitely recommend them.

I hope that they satisfy your sweet cravings as much as they have satisfied mines.

Happy Sweet New Year’s to all my readers!!!  Don’t forget to enjoy a sweet dessert on New Year’s Eve and would love to know what you had on New Year’s Eve, so please comment below and let me know or maybe a suggestion for me to try. I always love to hear from you guys!!

Until then, I will be searching for my next sweet & healthy vegan adventure in 2017…😋🎉🍰🌱

To end the summer, what better way than attending an outdoor foodie event, the weekend of September 10-11, 2016, I attended my 2nd Vegan festival, but my 1st time attending this particular one – Veg Food Fest 2016, which was held at the Harbourfront Centre. I was so excited to go after my 1st vegan one despite the rainy day (you can read it my review on Vegan Food & Drink Festival 2016 -> here), I enjoyed it so much that I thought that I go to another one to see what this one has to offer. This festival was run over the weekend of 3 days from September 9-11, 2016.

I went on the Sunday on a beautiful warm sunny day and what a perfect day to be by the waterfront. I was very impressed with the Veg Food Fest 2016 run by Toronto Vegetarian Association – a non-profit from Toronto – in partnership with Harbourfront Centre. I really enjoyed this event with the beautiful waterfront views, variety of vendors, workshops, samples from vendors, demonstrations, live music, and the atmosphere itself. I also enjoyed interacting with vendors and learning more about the vegan lifestyle as I’m still new to it as some of you might know (on a diary-free diet with a mild tolerance for milk as I still do eat meat). I attended this event with of course my sis who also loves attending these events, my 2nd foodie partner besides my mom…:)

Beautiful view of the waterfront at Harbourfront for the event

As this is my 1st time attending the Veg Food Fest 2016, I didn’t get a chance to do everything at the event such as watching cooking demos or attending the workshops or speakers seminars as there were a lot to see and sample. So I’m hoping next year I will try to attend one of them as I was excited to find out MasterChef Canada: Mary Berg was there this year and missed it.

Here are some more detailed information about Veg Food Fest 2016:

  • When: September 9-11, 2016
  • Location: Harbourfront Centre
  • Host: Toronto Vegetarian Association
  • How long has this festival been running for: This is their 32nd Veg Food Fest
  • What’s New This Year: Expanded their location to East side of Harbourfront Centre, 1st ever Veg Out relaxing zone, World Café will feature King’s Café, Green Zebra, Boon Burter and more.
  • Activities: workshops, lectures, fitness classes, music, panel discussions, cooking demos
  • Mission: “Inspiring people to choose a healthier, greener, more compassionate lifestyle through plant-based eating.” –Veg Food Fest Official Website

My Top Fave Desserts at Veg Food Fest 2016:

  • Nanashake – their delicious Nanapops of course, tried their delicious healthy yet yummy Mango & Strawberry mixed flavour one and loved it!! Who wouldn’t? I love anything mango!! As for those who don’t know, I always visit Nanashake shop before so it is no doubt that I love their yummy frozen desserts and always love seeing what new products that they come up with. If you haven’t been to their shop before, I highly recommend it, it’s definitely worth a trip to enjoy a delicious and healthy treat with a warm friendly welcome from their amazing staff.
  • Sweet Teeth Vegan Food Truck – 1st time finally trying Sweet Teeth Vegan as I been waiting to try it from the other festival but didn’t have a chance. Unfortunately this time there was no vegan ice cream left, but I still tried it anyways and got the OG, which was their Belgian waffle with fresh strawberries, strawberry sauce and instead of ice cream got whipped cream instead. Despite no ice cream, it was delicious the waffle, loved it was freshly made and soft and the strawberries was the best part to top it off!! Definitely coming back next time with the ice cream..:)
  • Sweets From the Earth – Tried their delicious vegan mini Strawberry Cupcake, which was absolutely delicious with the cake part of the cupcake was moist and soft and loved the frosting as it wasn’t too sweet! I also bought some Oatmeal Raisin cookies to bring home and enjoyed it while I was at home. Loved the cookies, you can’t even tell it was a vegan cookie, simply delicious. This is my 1st time discovering Sweets From the Earth and would love to try their other vegan products. They are a family-owned business and maintains two production facilities. Both are egg-free, dairy-free, and kosher. One is dedicated peanut- and nut-free and the other is dedicated wheat and gluten free. Products are available in stores across Canada, with new retailers being added all the time. (Info from their website). That’s a quick information about Sweets From the Earth if you are interested. You can check out their website link below after my blog entry.

I also got to visit Tori’s Bakeshop booth, but unfortunately they were out of my Vanilla cupcakes sadly I don’t eat chocolate (another fact if you didn’t know about me, shocker I know who doesn’t love chocolate and desserts go as a pair, that’s me a bit strange one here lol!). They had beautiful cupcakes display that I had to admit look delicious, check out my photo below. I’m hoping to stop by their bakeshop one day. Can’t wait to!

There were some booths that were giving out some free samples and who doesn’t love samples? I got a sample of Veggemo: 1st non-dairy beverage to originate from veggies. I got the original flavour as there were two other ones giving out as well as unsweetened and vanilla. I never tried Veggemo non-dairy beverage before so I thought it would be great to try it out and see if I like it so I can use it as part of my food dietary. Veggemo uses pea protein, tapioca, and potato to create this delicious non-dairy beverage. I’m looking forward to trying it!! You can find out where you can buy one yourself or more information on Veggemo at their website here -> Veggemo.

It was a fun foodie day filled with yummy & delicious sweet treats and desserts and who could have guess it was dairy-free, healthy and plant-based yet it tastes so delicious still. As I’m still learning my new dietary living dairy-free, part vegan that I’m enjoying and happy to see there are other options for people who can’t eat dairy or choose to be vegan, that I can still enjoy my love for desserts still without having dairy in it. I love attending these events who open my mind and see what products are out there that I didn’t know before. So if you didn’t attend, Veg Food Fest 2016 this year, I highly recommend coming to check out this event, come & sample some delicious foods and maybe you might discover some new products that you didn’t know before? Always a plus is the event is free.

I look forward to attending next year Veg Food Fest 2017!!!

Highlights of My 1st Vegan Food & Drink Festival

Hi everyone!

It’s been a very humid and scorching summer in Toronto this year! How is everyone handling this humidity? Loving it or not liking it?? 😉 LOL!! Well, I was not prepared for this high humidity, trying to find ways to keep cool and still enjoy the hot days while we can as Fall is around the corner and what I love about summer days in Toronto are of course as some of you know, love attending food festivals.

With my 1st summer foodie festival finished & done at the Taste of Toronto, been to a few smaller food festivals this summer after Taste of Toronto. Been going to food festivals that I haven’t been to before this summer experiencing them with my sis who also loves food as much as I do.

This past weekend, I went to my 1st Vegan Food & Drink Festival with my sister who enjoys vegan food and she suggested that I come with her to check it out myself as “vegan” also includes no dairy, which is part of my new diet now as I have mentioned before that I started recently having certain products with no dairy as I have a mild lactose intolerance. I am still new and learning about the concept of “vegan” food & lifestyle as I do still eat meat but just no dairy products or limited diary products.

I thought that it was a great idea for me to go to the Vegan Food & Drink Festival to explore and learn more about vegan foods & lifestyle.

If you haven’t been to the Vegan Food & Drink Festival before, here are some basic info about it:

  • This is the 2nd Annual Vegan Food & Drink Festival
  • Date: Saturday, August 13, 2016 (One Day Festival)
  • Time: 11am – 7pm
  • Location: Fort York Garrison Commons (double their capacity & space from last year)
  • What Does the Festival Offer: vegan comfort food, cold drinks, and live entertainment
  • Cost: $10 (Early Bird Price) & $15 (At the Door) & $20 (VIP Ticket)
  • Vendors: From local & visiting vendors
  • They also have Vegan Food & Drink Festival in Chicago as well

Despite the rainy, wet and humid weather, my sister and I still enjoyed the Vegan Food & Drink Festival exploring and discovering new vegan desserts & foods as it was interesting to see what vegan food is about and how it tastes. I really enjoyed the few samples of vegan foods that we were able to have with the rain downpour on and off. It is good to know my vegan options and that I can still enjoy vegan food despite being a meat eater still. I liked seeing there were many vendors offering different types of vegan food to explore.

In my opinion, I like how they had a larger space at Fort York Common Grounds and that they were able to have more vendors with the larger space along with seating and entertainment, but I thought it was a bit confusing where certain vendors were. They needed better signage due to the large space (no direction). But I did love their cute quote signs throughout the event. Check out a few of the signage photos I took there below. There were pros and cons at this event.

My Fave foods from the Vegan Food & Drink Festival are:

Fave DessertDefinitely has to be Dolled Up Desserts as they had the most delicious and amazing desserts selections hands down. I wish I had more lol!! Dolled Up Desserts is a vegan & gluten-free treats offering mini cupcakes, cake-pops minis, cookies (shortbread), magic bars & more at the festival. It was so hard to choose, I wanted them all lol! I ended up enjoying the perfect mini cupcake – Strawberry Shortcake and I love Earl Grey so it was naturally I tried the Earl Grey shortbread cookie, there was a strong flavour of Earl Grey throughout the cookie, which I loved! Next time would love to try the mini cake-pops, can’t wait to try more desserts by Dolled Up Desserts.

  • Fave Drink/Refreshment – Refreshing Fruit Tea with apple, rosehip, lemon pieces, & hibiscus petals by The Cold Pressery (located in Mississauga). As a tea drinker & lover, was very impressed with their Fruit Tea with the right amount of sweetness and light flavour with the fruits. The Cold Pressery - 2
  • Fave Sandwich – Portobello Sandwich by Parka Foods – Refined Comfort Food, love how a simple healthy comfort food such as a mushroom sandwich was made flavourful and filling, my sister and I had the Portobello mushroom sandwich with tomato, onion rings, arugula, guacamole with no chipotle aioli on my mines as I don’t eat spicy foods..:) Sorry I didn’t take a photo of my sandwich as it was pouring rain by the time we got to eat it!

(The Sample Sandwiches)

There were so many vegan & gluten-free desserts options, it was very hard to choose which one to go to! If you can believe it, shocker, but I couldn’t sample them all lots of sweetness happening all at once lol. Thou I was very excited to see that there is a large option for vegan/dairy-free desserts being not able to eat too much dairy products now. I also tried another dessert place called, Bunner’s: a vegan and gluten-free bake shop, which I tried their birthday cinnamon bun, loved the sweet taste of it, but thought with the humidity the cake itself was a bit thick for me to enjoy. I would love to try their other desserts next time.

Bunner Desserts - 2

Overall, I enjoyed tasting & sampling vegan foods and seeing what vegan types of food & desserts of course has to offer at the Vegan Food & Drink Festival 2016. It showed me a different side of vegan foods has to share & offer that I didn’t see before.

If you haven’t been to the Vegan Food & Drink Festival before, I definitely recommend that you come out next year to see what’s it all about it as it’s great to sample & enjoy the vegan food options along with great atmosphere outdoors esp. during the summer time.

I been enjoying my foodie festivals this summer so far – discovering new vegan desserts & new foods, can’t believe summer will be over soon! There are a few more food festivals to go to and my mini trip to Kingston this September that I will be of course sharing with everyone. So don’t forget to come back to my blog to check out what my next food festivals I will be attending if you haven’t already checked out my Twitter @SweetBFoodie24 & Instagram @sweetbfoodie24 for previews before my actual blog.

For now I leave you with these sweet summer vegan desserts to satisfy your sweet cravings or maybe give you some ideas for your next vegan dessert idea…:)

Valentine’s Day Desserts frm the Elegant Pastry Shop: Bobbette & Belle

Hi everyone!!

Happy Valentine’s Day to all my sweet readers 2day!! Valentine’s Day is a definitely one of those days that you don’t need an excuse for desserts as it is the perfect time to enjoy lots of yummy sweet desserts!! That is why I love celebrating these special occasions like these just to enjoy and satisfy my sweet cravings what a great excuse to have some desserts. On this special Valentine’s Day holiday, sharing my sweet desserts and my love to my 2 amazing sisters who are not just my sisters but also my best friends. Desserts always taste better when you share them with the ones you love!

This year I’m celebrating Valentine’s Day with Bobbette & Belle, an artisanal pastries shop featuring their baked goods made fresh and everything is baked from scratch with their finest ingredients. I stopped by their 2nd location at their Yonge shop (Yonge Lawrence Village area) for the first time. Bobbette & Belle has 2 locations with their first shop located in the heart of Leslieville area on Queen Street.

I have been always wanting to try Bobbette & Belle and for some reason never tried it until now, which the question is why have I been waiting this long to go to Bobbette & Belle? No idea ‘cause it, I absolutely fell in love with this chic, elegant, yet cozy & welcoming shop!!

Bobbette & Belle is known for their lavish & elegant wedding cakes, their famous cupcakes and delicious French macarons. They also offer other baked goods including scones, croissants, pies, tortes, cookies, and more! Drinks include their famous homemade hot chocolate served with toasted marshmallow, espresso-based coffees and a wide range of teas. I tried their Hot Cider especially on one of the coldest day and wow simply delicious, I loved it!! Bobbette & Belle also offer their services to provide corporate sweet events and gift ideas as well.

My Take-out Hot Cider Outside

My 1st experience with Bobbette & Belle was simply amazing, as mentioned I instantly fell in love with this cozy & elegant pastry shop. I went on the coldest day in Toronto but it was definitely worth it. I entered the shop with the warm smell of baked goods and sweet smell of coffee too. I love the warm, quiet chatter atmosphere as I entered the shop. It was actually quite busy when I went but I was still greeted by one of the servers and didn’t felt rushed to decide which delicious desserts to get as there were so many to choose from. I wanted to try them all lol!! Great customer service for sure. I simply love their Valentine’s Day decorations as well, check out some of my photos below!

After finally deciding on which desserts to take home with me to share with my sisters, I ended up with a pack of 6 macarons, which flavours I picked was: the special Valentine’s Day flavour – Strawberry Champagne, 2 Raspberries, Chocolate, Pistachio and Passionfruit. Of course I had to try one of their delicious cupcakes as I been craving for cupcakes so I chose their Vanilla Raspberry & Mango Passionfruit Buttercream Coconut cupcakes. And I have to say these are one of the best cupcakes I ever had, the Vanilla Raspberry one was simply delicious, I loved their icing and usually icings are very very sweet and this one was not, it was made fresh and real Raspberry pieces was inside the icing and I never had icing made like this and loved it!! The cake itself was light and fluffy, loved it, this is almost a perfect cupcake..:) I also couldn’t resist those special Valentine’s Day Shortbread cookies, how can you? LOL!! I love cookies as well. So I had to at least try one and it was almost too pretty to eat with the sparkly icing, it was light and perfect!

I have to add that I love Bobbette & Belle adorable boxes that they put the desserts in, it is very elegant and chic, loved it!!! I’m keeping them! 🙂

I look forward to coming back to visit Bobbette & Belle as I definitely have to come back to try their other sweet desserts as I saw their apple tart and simply looked delicious. I definitely would love to sit and enjoy a cup of tea there as well as it looks like a cozy spot especially on the weekends to warm up or enjoy a simple and elegant dessert. I hope that you would come and see this little chic and cozy bakery shop yourself, I definitely recommend it!!

Hope that everyone is having a sweet Valentine’s Day celebrating with your loved ones!! Hope everyone had a yummy dessert on Valentine’s Day too. If you haven’t had a sweet dessert yet, there’s still time if you are in Canada and those who have a long Family Day weekend like me why not check out Bobbette & Belle for your sweet cravings! Definitely check out Bobbette & Belle on any occasion not just Holidays, they offer so many wide selection of fresh and high-end quality desserts, it’s simply worth it to check out anytime!

I hope that everyone enjoyed my Valentine’s Day special post, until my next sweet adventure….
