Try My New Fave Dairy free Tigernut Ice Cream: The Chufa Co.

Hi everyone,

How is everyone enjoying these hot & humid summer days in Toronto?? Wow!!! It’s been a very hot and sticky summer so far in Toronto. We had a few relief of cooler days and even rain finally to cool down in the city at least. I love my sunny & warm summer days, but sometimes it’s a bit too humid especially in the city and so I been enjoying my summer days finding ways to cool down with relaxing by the beach or having cold dairy free desserts. How are you guys cooling off this summer in Toronto?

With these scorching hot summer days in Toronto, who wouldn’t love a frozen dessert treat to cool down with?? From my previous blog post, I shared with you about my 3 delicious and dairy free sorbets places to check out. I hope that you guys had a chance to check them out, if so, what do you think?? I would love to hear your opinions and you can comment below!!

As some of you know, July is National Ice Cream Month, what perfect way to celebrate National Ice Cream Month then sharing with you guys about a new dairy free ice cream that I discovered. Ice Creams are the perfect frozen dessert especially during these humid summer days. For people like me who enjoys dairy free products due to allergies, it sometimes is a challenge to find ice cream without dairy in it.

That’s why I’m soooo happy and excited to share with you The Chufa Co who makes their non dairy ice cream with their tigernut milk ice cream. Their vegan ice cream it’s rich and creamy without the hint of coconut. For me, sometimes I’m not a fan of the coconut taste and this ice cream you can’t even taste the coconut taste in it. If you are one of those who don’t prefer the taste of coconut, this is one vegan ice cream you need to try. Plus it’s also soy and nut free made with only organic and real ingredients. It is also high in fibre and protein.

Some of you may be asking, what exactly is Tigernuts? With my research and information from The Chufa Co website, Tigernuts also known as Chufas. They are not nuts but actually little root vegetables with an impressive nutritional profile. They are an ancient superfood that is full of fibre and resistant starch. “Tigernuts are a source of prebiotics that feed and promote the good bacteria in our gut.” -The Chufa Co. Tigernuts are a good source of magnesium and provides a good amount of potassium. They are naturally sweet and a great addition to a healthy and balanced diet to live a healthy life.

Now that I introduced you to The Chufa Co. – the new non dairy ice cream, how excited are you to try this delicious and creamy dairy free ice cream? Well, before buying your own pint, which I highly recommend, why not stop by first to their summer soft serve popup that they opened in the Beaches area to sample yourself this sweet and yummy dairy free ice cream!! It definitely is a must to stop by their summer cute popup by the Beaches and it’s the perfect location as you can stop by the beach at Woodbine Beach and then come by the Chufa Co. popup for a refreshing and cold dessert.

It is located at 1973 Queen Street East in the Beaches area at the corner of Waverley Road and Queen Street East. They are open Tuesday – Sunday from 1-9pm and closed on Mondays. Their soft serve summer popup will be open til late September.

I was so excited to finally stop by their summer soft serve pop up earlier this month on a very hot and humid day, which was perfect for dairy free soft serve ice cream!! It’s a cozy and cute small summer popup stand and perfect for sweet & delicious dairy free soft serve to enjoy. I love the colours and concept of the popup!! Also great and very friendly customer service by the two staff that worked there too. And knowledgeable about the soft serve product of The Chufa Co. ice cream.

I ended up with their Vanilla dairy free soft serve with strawberry sauce and it was simply delicious despite the fact it was melting fast lol…but it tasted like a normal dairy ice cream, but this one is dairy free and there was no hint of the coconut taste and it was soft and creamy just like regular ice cream. I loved it!! I can’t wait to stop by again already!!

Once you stop by their summer popup shop and taste one of their delicious and creamy dairy free soft serve, maybe you want to now buy your own pint of this delicious tigernut dairy free ice cream, right? The Chufa Co. has their tigernut dairy free ice cream in several retailers in Toronto and within the area of Toronto as well and they looking to expand more retailers in 2018. Some of the retailers right now include: The Big Carrot, Sorelle and Co., The Sweet Potato, Organic Garage, YamChops and more to name a few. Please check their website for the full list of retailers and you can find their website below my blog post.

I went to 2 locations to check for The Chufa Co. dairy free ice cream: The Big Carrot and Organic Garage. I found all 3 flavours at The Big Carrot, but only found 2 flavours at the Organic Garage. I was excited to find them thou it is a bit pricey for one pint (it is on the higher end of the dairy free ice creams if you are wondering), but it’s so worth it for dairy free ice cream to have your own pint at home to enjoy anytime. I’m looking forward to trying the Strawberry Cardamom one!!

Update

It will be a busy August summer month for me with watching tennis live, attending a few food festivals, and my summer weekend getaway to Montreal at the end of August. I’m attending a personal event as always I love looking for new dairy free bakeshops in new cities so I will be on a look out for dairy free bakeshops to share with you guys!! Can’t wait!! A bit of both of work and play…😉

Don’t forget to stay connected with me for the latest updates on my next blog post on Twitter @SweetBFoodie24 and my foodie adventures through Instagram & IG stories @SweetBFoodie24.

Even though it’s the end of the month for July  meaning National Ice Cream Month is over…☹, for me National Ice Cream Months are every month and any day of the year and any season. Summer is still here in August and what is more perfect on a humid and hot summer day than dairy free ice cream to cool down with, so don’t forget to stop by the Chufa Co. summer popup in the Beaches area before they close in late September or get your very own pint at one of their selected retailers!! I highly recommend their soft and creamy dairy free ice cream!!

For now, let’s relax and enjoy these summer carefree days with our sweet and yummy dairy free ice cream by the Chufa Co. as I continue my search for my next sweet dairy free dessert adventure in Toronto & Montreal.

My 3 New Fave Summer Sorbet Places

Hi everyone,

Hellooooo summer finally!! It definitely feels like summer with these super scorching humid and hot 1st long weekend of the summer! Yes it’s officially summer now as June 21, 2018 marks the first official day of summer. As summer was approaching in Toronto, we were already feeling the heat and sunny days, I am loving every minute of it especially since coming back from my hot and tropical vacation in Jamaica. I am definitely ready for these hot and sunny days in Toronto.

Who’s ready for summer this year?? What are you guys looking forward to this summer?? I can’t wait for more food festivals, music festivals, beach days and day trips & getaways. I always enjoy the warmer and not too hot days here in Toronto. I tend to enjoy the summer days either within the city or to neighbouring cities to enjoy the beaches and quaint towns atmosphere in Ontario. So if you are looking for ways to cool down within Toronto, one of the best ways is of course with cold frozen desserts, right?

Well with these hot and humid summer months in Toronto, yes there are some days way too humid for me even lol and I love to cool down with cold, sweet and freshly made fruit sorbets desserts. For those like me, who enjoys dairyfree foods, it sometimes is a challenge to find a great tasting frozen dessert to cool down with and I think that sorbets are a great option to refresh your palate and cool down in the sun. Sorbets are made of water, fruit and sugar, which I love that is 100% fruit, which tends to be more healthier.

My Top 3 Fave Sorbet Places

Here are 3 new Sorbet places I discovered that I highly recommend to you my readers where I enjoyed sweet, delicious and freshly made sorbets for you to enjoy this summer. Some of the places you wouldn’t even think of have that will serve this type of dessert are some of the hidden gems for sorbets.

#1. Nadège Patisserie

Nadège Patisserie is well known for French modern desserts and most popular dessert, macarons along with their beautiful and delicious variety of pastries from mini cakes to tarts to chocolate bonbons. You wouldn’t think that Nadège Patisserie would have ice cream or sorbet as part of the menu? To my surprise, recently opened by Nadège a cozy and intimate ice cream shop serving gelato and sorbet at their Queen location only. It is located at the corner of Queen and Gore Vale Avenue, a few steps after their outdoor patio is a separate ice cream shop they have set up. There are also helpful signs along the way to help you find the shop. It is surely not to be missed.

I love their intimate and friendly open space ice cream shop especially the pink walls!! There are 16 flavours available. The gelatos are mostly based on Nadège Patisserie cakes and the sorbets are fruit based, which makes them vegan and dairy free. They have a great selection of flavours for even people like me who are dairy free and I love that there are good selection of dairy free flavours to choose from. They also have toppings to add to your gelato or sorbet, which includes sauces such as chocolate, caramel & strawberry, mini macarons, caramel popcorn, whipped cream and more! They also make ice cream sandwiches, wow!! A great selection of frozen dessert for everyone including those who enjoy dairy free desserts!!

*The beautiful macaron tower with the ice cream print from their Yorkdale Location*

I ended up choosing the Raspberry sorbet with mini macarons toppings, which was simply delicious and full of flavour. I loved the fruity and sweet flavour!!

I can’t wait to come back for another visit to Nadège Patisserie Queen St Ice Cream shop to sample the other delicious and sweet flavours!! For Nadège other locations, they only serve the soft serve ice creams, which has dairy in them. If you are interested for a larger flavour selection and the dairy free sorbets are available only at the Queen St location Ice Cream shop.

I definitely recommend you guys checking out Nadège Patisserie new Ice Cream Shop at their Queen Street location as you definitely will not be disappointed with their variety of selection and sweet fruity taste!! With the Trinity Bellwoods park located right beside the shop, it is the perfect spot to enjoy a refreshing cold frozen dessert for the summer outdoors.

#2. Butter Avenue

My 2nd place that I’m recommending you go to is Butter Avenue. Butter Avenue is known for their high quality French macarons with their Japanese inspired flavours. As well they have a great selection of mini cakes, tarts and more. Butter Avenue is one of my fave macaron shops to go to so I was also surprised that they decided to add ice cream to their menu as well. I was even more excited when I found out that they had a dairy free sorbet as one of their flavours for ice cream.

Butter Avenue offers only 2 delicious flavoursUji Matcha (made with our direct import matcha from Uji, Kyoto) or the Strawberry purée (made with 100% real strawberry, vegan & dairy free) or you could have the swirl and taste the two delicious flavours all at once!

They recently introduced the Lychee Strawberry Sorbet sundae (which is the Strawberry purée the dairy free sorbet), which consists of lychee agar jelly, mini Strawberry macaron, Strawberry sauce and merginue cookies. What a perfect summer cold treat to have right?? Of course, I had to stop by Butter Avenue to try the Lychee Strawberry Sorbet Sundae and wow the strawberry sorbet was light yet creamy texture even with no dairy in it. I love the combination of the Strawberry sorbet with the lychee taste!! The perfect topping was that cute mini Strawberry macaron of course! This is the definitely the perfect summer frozen treat to enjoy on a hot summer day. You can have the sorbet to eat at Butter Avenue or to go option as well!!

Can’t wait to see if there will be more flavours of sorbets to be added to this summer menu!!

*Some delicious macarons I picked up*

If you are looking for sweet summer sorbet sundae, then look no further than Butter Avenue as I highly recommend you stop by to try their Lychee Strawberry Sorbet sundae and see why I love it soooo much!! You can also try Butter Avenue other desserts available at their store especially their macarons like I did, couldn’t resist picking up some delicious macarons.

#3. Touti Gelati

My last recommendation for delicious, sweet & authentic made sorbets is Touti Gelati. I usually have a few go to spots for gelatos and sorbets places. But I recently discovered a new gelato/sorbet place and I couldn’t believe that I never heard of it before and so excited to share with you guys because some gelato places don’t have a large selection of sorbets maybe 2 or 3 flavours. This is not the case for Touti Gelati because it offers authentic Italian homemade gelato and sorbets with many flavours to choose from. I love the large selection of gelato and sorbets with classic flavours to new fresh ingredients to make new fun flavours!! That’s why I instantly loved this cozy and friendly gelato/sorbet place!!

I’m happy to be sharing this new gelato/sorbet place with you guys!! They also serve gelato shake and smoothies, which is dairy free, 100% made with crushed fruit and free of artificial ingredients. I was too full from my sorbet to try it, but would love to come back next time to try it. As well they also serve waffles, crepes, and other pastries along with coffee and tea. I’m not sure if the waffles and crepes are dairy free, which if you are interested to try it you would have to inquire about it.

With so many flavours of sorbets to choose from, I finally decided on the Mango and Strawberry flavours and I simply loved the mango sorbet flavour!!! It tasted like a real fresh actual mango but in a frozen treat. You can taste the fresh and homemade ingredients to the sorbet!! I can’t wait to come back and try the other flavours.

Touti Gelati have 2 locationstheir original location is the Queens Quay one downtown Toronto and their newer location is at the Beaches area so East of Toronto near Woodbine Beach. I went to the Beaches location of Touti Gelati as it was closer to me and a great location near Woodbine Beach to stop by after the beach to enjoy a frozen dessert to cool down. I also can’t wait to try the Queens Quay location next time!!! For more information about location and more for Touti Gelati, please see below my post.

I definitely recommend stopping by Touti Gelati with their large selection of flavours for sorbets along with their authentic and homemade quality taste!

What is Christmas dinners, parties, and the Holidays itself without desserts, right?? Usually this is always a busy time of year for most people and if you are looking for desserts, treats or baked goods for either your Holiday parties or Christmas dinners or whatever the event is. That’s why I’m here to share and recommend some of my fave bakeries and places to get Holiday desserts.

I love the Holiday Season and getting festive!! Christmas desserts are the perfect way to get into the Christmas spirit and fulfill your sweet Christmasy cravings! I enjoy my Christmas desserts in the entire month of December lol!! 😋 Isn’t Holidays the perfect time to enjoy more than one desserts? 😊 Who could resist right??

Here are my Top 3 Best Desserts Bakeshops that I highly recommend you should go to:

1. Kelly’s Bake Shoppe

My 1st bakeshop I’m recommending is – Kelly’s Bake Shoppe and they are located in the Burlington area. Kelly’s Bake Shoppe is one of my newly discovered vegan bakeshops that I found this summer and I am in love with this bakeshop as it has the best vegan cupcakes!! Even if you don’t live in the Burlington area like me (I live in Toronto), it is definitely worth the trip to Burlington for Kelly’s cupcakes or baked goods. I have travelled to Kelly’s on a number of times already just to visit and enjoy their sweet cupcakes and other baked goods. That’s how good and delicious the cupcakes are at Kelly’s that it is worth the travel. Though Kelly’s now delivers to Toronto and other cities and please check their website for the exact details.

Me in front of their beautiful mural at the side of their bakeshop

For those who haven’t heard of Kelly’s Bake Shoppe, the bakeshop owners are a mother/daughter team – Kelly and Erinn. Kelly’s Bake Shoppe makes healthy and high quality ingredients baked goods that offers gluten-free, dairy-free, egg-free, butter-free, vegan and peanut-free baked goods that are delicious as well. They are well known for their cupcakes and cakes as well as they offer cookies, soft serve, muffins, brownies & bars, scones, and donuts. They also now serve coffee, lattes, hot chocolate and tea with their own Kelly’s specialty blend coffee released recently.

I recently visited Kelly’s Bakeshop particularly for their special Christmas menu that is available for the entire month of December. I love their Christmas menu as it has a variety of cupcakes to cookies, donuts and more! I was excited to try their Christmas treats!! This wasn’t my 1st visit to Kelly’s as I first discovered Kelly’s during the summer and I been waiting to share my fave vegan bakeshop with my readers. Why I haven’t til now?? Its been a busy summer and Fall as you know, but I’m happy to share my secret not so secret now fave vegan bakeshop. If you follow my Instagram you would have already seen a few posts about Kelly’s…😉 I wish Kelly’s has a store location in Toronto so it would be closer for me to enjoy more cupcakes more often…😉 I have fallen in love with this quaint city of Burlington that I always love visiting it and their beautiful waterfront. It’s definitely worth the travel for these cupcakes!!

One of the features I love about Kelly’s is that they have a special feature cupcake every month along with their regular cupcakes that they have weekly. I’m always excited to find out what cupcake is it for each month and see if I need to take a trip for a cupcake that month…😉 I like that Kelly’s has a variety of baked goods to offer even though their focus are on cupcakes. I also like Kelly’s contests that they do and interact with their customers.

Kelly’s Christmas Banner (Credit to Kelly’s Bakeshoppe)

With every visit to Kelly’s, I’m always walking in to the aroma of fresh cupcakes and baked goods along with a smile and greeting as I enter in the bakeshop. Their bakeshop is medium size with a long center table and seating on benches on the side making it enough room not too small for a number of guests. I love the atmosphere and the lighting in the bakeshop making it a friendly and welcoming bakeshop to eat and enjoy your treats as I spend a bit of time there with my friend chatting and enjoying our treats.

They have excellent customer service and a very friendly staff who has been very helpful to me if I have any questions about the products. If you are wondering, yes you can pre-order cupcakes or other baked goods for the same day pick-up on the phone with a deposit or order your cupcakes ahead of time. It’s good for me as I travel from Toronto & want to make sure the cupcakes/baked goods I would like is there for me. As they have a different cupcakes on certain days so be sure to check out their menu ahead of time. My fave cupcakes so far are the Unicorn & Lemon Raspberry flavours.

On this visit, I pre-ordered the Gingerbread & Lemon, Christmas Cake and Frosty the Snowman along with 2 Gingerbread cookies made in the shape of reindeers. As some of you know, I love gingerbread cookies or just gingerbread flavour itself especially during the Christmas season!! So there was no doubt I had to try the Gingerbread & Lemon and loved it!! If you haven’t tried one of Kelly’s cupcakes before, they are vegan and you wouldn’t know they were vegan from the look and especially the taste of it. It tastes like a regular cupcake and I love that I can still enjoy my sweets that are dairy free because of Kelly’s they make their cupcakes – dairy-free, plant-based, gluten-free, egg-free and vegan. All their cupcakes that I have tried are moist for the cake part and their frosting aren’t that sweet as most cupcake places, it has the right amount of sweetness in it. Their mint buttercream frosting on the Christmas Cake is the best, I am I love with the mint frosting!! LOL!! Some of Kelly’s cupcakes has filling in them and wow those are the best ones as they make the cupcake pop of flavour in your mouth. They are also offering a special New Year’s cupcake only on Dec 30 & 31.

Our (my friend & my) complimentary cupcakes – Lemon & Christmas Candy Cane flavours

I am absolutely love Kelly’s vegan cupcakes!!! They are the best and my fave vegan go to cupcakes!!

If you are looking for Christmas desserts, treats, or even gifts (they are also selling their cookbooks & tees in the store) – look no further than Kelly’s Bake Shoppe, I highly recommend this delicious & amazing vegan bakeshop. If you don’t live in the Burlington area, it’s definitely worth the travel or special delivery for December. I am looking forward to my next Kelly’s visit unfortunately have to wait til 2018!! Can’t wait to enjoy more vegan cupcakes and to try other baked goods that I haven’t tried yet!!

2. Mad Batter Bakers

One of my absolutely fave place to get the best and soft gingerbread cookies in Toronto is Mad Batter Bakers. Last year I recommended Mad Batter Bakers too and this year is no difference, for my new readers who haven’t read why I love Mad Batter Bakers gingerbread cookies, let me tell you more and for those who have, let me refresh you with their soft and sweet smell of gingerbread aroma.

Mad Batter Bakers is located in the Liberty Village area in Toronto. I first discovered Mad Batter Bakers at the One of a Kind Christmas Show a few years ago and ever since then I don’t go anywhere else for my soft & delicious Gingerbread cookies for Christmas. This is the 1st year that Mad Batter Bakers wasn’t at the One of the Kind Christmas show to focus on their bakeshop instead. I was excited to visit their newly renovated bakeshop. Their bakeshop is relatively small, but very cozy and the smell of gingerbread cookies makes you feel warm as you are welcomed by their friendly staff and baker. They make the gingerbread cookies right in the shop in the kitchen. I love how they decorated the shop and I always have a hard time choosing which gingerbread cookies I get.

Gingerbread cookies always makes me feel like it’s Christmas and the Holiday season!! Besides how delicious their cookies taste, their cookies look so pretty too, I simply love their not overly sweet icing on their cookies as some places make the icings really sweet. Mad Batter Bakers also offer Old Fashioned Sugar Cookies. They also offer gluten free version of both the gingerbread cookies and sugar cookies. I love that they have options for different types of people to enjoy.

This Christmas season, Mad Batter Bakers has some new beautiful and delicious products, which includes their new Limited Edition Canadiana Christmas House for Canada 150 and little ‘Canadiana’ cookie set along with mini gingerbread house sets. You can also find their gingerbread cookies at Toronto Christmas Market in the Distillery District.

So if you are looking for the best gingerbread cookies in Toronto, don’t look further than Mad Batter Bakers, come by visit this quaint bakery shop for yourself to see what I’m talking about. It surely will not disappoint you!! It is worth the trip to visit and taste and pick up some of these amazing & soft cookies for desserts and even gifts. Please make sure you check their hours and you can also phone ahead to see if they are open as they have special hours for this last week for Christmas.

3. Tori’s Bakeshop

One of my faves vegan bakeshop in Toronto that I discovered last year – Tori’s Bakeshop is my last recommendation for Christmas desserts. I haven’t been able to share about Tori’s Bakeshop in a blog post until now. If you haven’t heard of Tori’s Bakeshop, they are an eco-friendly, all-natural organic bakery that offers dairy-free, egg-free, and refined sugar-free treats of many types! They also carry a selection of gluten free products as well. They bake their products fresh every morning with the highest quality of ingredients. Tori’s Bakeshop baked good ranges from their delicious cupcakes to donuts (one of my fave donuts is a must have when I’m there) to cookies to thumbprint cookies to cinnamon buns to cruffins to light sandwiches and more. They also make custom cakes. This Christmas they have their Gingerbread house kits as well. I love the variety of baked goods that Tori’s Bakeshop has to offer!! They also have coffee, lattes, teas and juices.

Recently this year, Tori’s Bakeshop opened a new location in the Canary District at the corner of Front and Cooperage. This would be their 2nd location. I recently finally visited their new location at the Canary District and I love the new modern, beautiful, and open space at this location. It also has benches on the side to enjoy your sweet desserts and in the summer or spring they have patio bench & table to eat outside. It’s a quaint medium size bakery with a beautiful modern twist compared to the original location in the Beaches. As I always love visiting the Beaches location as well, it’s great that they have two different atmosphere for the 2 locations.

It was a hard decision to choose which delicious desserts that I wanted to have with my recent visit to their Canary District location. I ended up with their Christmas cupcake – Coconut & Raspberry Pomegranate with raspberry filling inside, it was soooo good!! I love their cupcakes here as the cake itself is moist and freshly made you can tell when you eat it. I also took home some goodies including 2 Raspberry Thumbprint cookies and their Vanilla heart shaped donut with pink frosting on top!! I’m in love with their donuts, I haven’t found a bakeshop in Toronto that makes vegan donuts like they do so far!! It’s soft and the right amount of sweetness to the donuts, they taste like normal donuts and you can’t tell that it’s vegan and I love that!!

So if you are looking for a variety of delicious baked goods for Christmas desserts to share with your family, friends or co-workers, I highly recommend Tori’s Bakeshop in Toronto. Don’t forget to call or check with them their Holiday Hours as this is their last week open before they closed for the Holidays!!! So if you would like to check them out, why not this week for their delicious and warm desserts!!

For more information about Tori’s Bakeshop, please see below:

Happy 3 Year Blog Anniversary!!!

Hi everyone!!

On this day, February 23 back in 2014, is when I first started this food blog site! I can’t believe it’s been 3 years now since I started this blog and taking a look back on how much I have grown from 3 years ago to now is something I didn’t expect.

I started this blog to share with everyone my love for food and more particularly my love for desserts and sweets. I couldn’t imagine how much my blog has grown within 3 years and how much I have grown in learning about food itself and my own food sensitivity with non-dairy products. I am still learning about the new “vegan” foods & desserts and discovering what my body can take. I still love my sweets & now share delicious yet healthy dessert places with my readers.

I am also happy and excited to share on my blog with my readers my passion for events and travel through attending Toronto foodie events & my travel experiences.

I have to thank Food Bloggers of Canada (website -> click here) for providing me a place to share and network with other Canadian bloggers as well as providing food blogging resources to assist me in the world of blogging. I continue to learn, network and grow within this friendly and amazing food community.

Of course, I wouldn’t be here without my readers, so I would like to take this time to THANK YOU each one of my amazing readers for letting me share my love for desserts, sweets, events, and travel with you!! I look forward to bringing you more sweetness and foodie adventures for many years to come!!!

On my 3rd Year Anniversary, I celebrated at one of my newly discovered fave vegan bakeshop, Tori’s Bakeshop. Tori’s Bakeshop is located in the Beaches area on Queen Street East. This bakeshop is an all-natural organic bakery that offers dairy-free, egg-free, and refined sugar-free treats and even carry a selection of gluten free products. Their bakery items range from breads, cakes, mini loaves, cookies, cupcakes, macarons, muffins and even croutons. Along with baked goods, Tori’s Bakeshop also has light healthy sandwiches for brunch/lunch. They also offer beverages such as tea & coffee as well.

I thought that this was the perfect spot to celebrate delicious sweets for my newly diet as a semi vegan now where I still enjoy yummy desserts, but with non-dairy products now.

I discovered Tori’s Bakeshop during the summer at one of the Vegan festivals and absolutely loved her delicious sweet treats. My sister and I sampled her delicious donuts.

I stopped by Tori’s Bakeshop on a warm & sunny winter weekend, it felt more like Spring weather as there were many people on the Queen street enjoying this beautiful weather. Tori’s Bakeshop is a cozy and welcoming bakeshop filled with a selection of delicious baked goods!! I couldn’t choose which sweet treat I wanted as each item looked so delicious! I ended up choosing a Strawberry Vanilla cupcake as cupcakes are one of my fave desserts and it was simply perfect, soft, moist and I loved the raspberry & strawberry filling inside, which tops the cupcake as one of the best I had. I also picked up a few shortbread cookies to go.

I will definitely be coming back to Tori’s Bakeshop for more delicious and sweet desserts as there are still lots that I haven’t even sample yet. If you haven’t been to Tori’s Bakeshop, I highly recommend you try this vegan and all natural, organic bakery. You don’t know what you are missing out on and will not be disappointed!!

I’m looking forward to continuing to share my food, events and travel adventures with you all!! I hope that you all will continue to join me in discovering new bakeries and restaurants along with sightseeing to new cities and countries for my travel foodie adventures!!

Cheers to many more sweet adventures & the years to come!!! 🍹🍰🎉

My 2016 Year In Review

Hi everyone,

Welcome to a brand New Year of 2017 🎉, though I started my 2017, a bit rough with a horrible cold, but I am finally recovering from this cold and ready to take on a brand new Sweet & Healthy 2017 Year!! 😀🍎🍰 There’s a saying that “it is not how you start, but how you finish” so in my case how tackle the challenges for this year and how I will finish it strong & on a positive note!! I’m excited for this Year 2017 with many exciting things happening with travel and new food adventures (especially with my Las Vegas trip already booked in March 2017 to name one of the many fun things happening)!

Typically you would find most Year In Reviews blog posts at the end of the year, but I am continuing my tradition here being the 2nd time doing this that I like to reflect on the Year before to start off this New Year 2017.

My Stats from 2015 to 2016

It will be 3 years next month that I have started this blog and I feel that I have grown from where I started yet I am still learning new and exciting things in the blogging world everyday. I believe that there is still more room to grow with my blog and I should say thanks to an amazing & friendly community called: Food Bloggers of Canada (click here for their website -> here) who I have mentioned in other posts how joining this community expanded my networks and provided me with learning resources and tools to help me in this blogging world. They will continue to be part of my blog in this growing experience providing me with guidance and networking.

With my blog still growing, in 2016 I can’t believe it was viewed in 53 countries, which doubled since 2015! Wow!! Most readers are from Canada & USA and then expanding to new readers in UK, Europe, Denmark and Asia countries to New Zealand, which is great to know that I have people on the other side of the world interested in reading about my love for food, travel and events.

According to the stats on WordPress, my Blog was viewed 906 times in 2016, which doubled the views from the year before in 2015! In 2016, my stats showed that I had 715 visitors to my blog, which also doubled since the year before in 2015! That’s pretty impressive as I’m still a beginner blogger and my blog is still growing so thank you again to all my readers for the continuing support and coming back to read my blog!

My Sweet & Healthy Year In Review For 2016

2016 was a year of change and discovering my food sensitivity (intolerance) to dairy products. It has been a slow adjustment to non-dairy products as now I’m part Vegan and learning & discovering that I can still enjoy what I love like sweet, desserts, etc in non-dairy products. It is still a learning experience becoming part Vegan and also helped me eating more healthier, but it doesn’t stop what I love most, which are my love for desserts. I’m able to still balance being healthy and still enjoy my sweets but vegan style now…:)

Besides my big adjustment in my diet, in 2016, I still attended several delicious food events in Toronto including my 1st Vegan Food & Drink Festival, Vegfood Fest, Taste of Toronto 2016, and more. Also, in 2016, I attended my 2nd Food Bloggers of Canada Conference held in my own city this time in Toronto for their 5th Anniversary. I enjoyed this year theme “Do the Work”. It showcased a lineup of bloggers/speakers who have done the work whether they have found success on their terms by doing what they love and by putting hours into it. I enjoyed learning, networking and of course the delicious foods.

At the VegFood Fest in September 2016, sampling Nanashake Nanapops, mango flavour!

In 2016, some of my travel adventures continued and started a new feature for the blog on Travel, in the Fall of 2016 went to Kingston, Ontario for my 1st time and discovered this charming and historic city where I discovered lots of delicious bakeries and restaurants for a foodie like me to enjoy. Want to check out this historic city & don’t miss out on this adventure, read my blog post here -> link.

As well, summer of 2016 went on a magical adventure with my family to Orlando, Florida where we went to Disney World as it is my niece 1st time going and enjoyed the delicious and variety of restaurants at Universal Studios & Disney Springs. I’m looking forward to 2017 to new & exciting travel destinations and rediscovering places I visited to share with you my readers.

What would you like to see more of on my Sweet B., the Exploring Foodie blog? Is there a specific dessert place or restaurant you would like for me to try? All suggestions are most welcome!

My Highlights of Veg Food Fest 2016

Hi everyone,

Can you believe that summer is already over? It’s been a busy summer with my full time job as an Admin, but it’s been filled with delicious foodie events, watching the Rogers Cup tennis and going to one baseball game at least! I hope that everyone enjoyed their summer and this very humid summer weather in T.O.

It is officially Fall now and I’m excited for the cooler weather, the beautiful colourful leaves and if you didn’t know, Fall is one of my fave season and with Fall comes sweet delicious apple desserts, warm yummy desserts and Thanksgiving of course!

Before we get into this blog post, a quick update is I am working on a special project that will be revealed soon, I’m excited about it, but it’s been taking a lot of my time so that is why there hasn’t been another sweet blog post until now and a lot of exciting events & trips such as the Food Bloggers of Canada Conference that I will be attending in October are happening the next few months so please be patient with me. So stay tuned this Fall for some exciting sweet warm posts & my special project!!

To end the summer, what better way than attending an outdoor foodie event, the weekend of September 10-11, 2016, I attended my 2nd Vegan festival, but my 1st time attending this particular one – Veg Food Fest 2016, which was held at the Harbourfront Centre. I was so excited to go after my 1st vegan one despite the rainy day (you can read it my review on Vegan Food & Drink Festival 2016 -> here), I enjoyed it so much that I thought that I go to another one to see what this one has to offer. This festival was run over the weekend of 3 days from September 9-11, 2016.

I went on the Sunday on a beautiful warm sunny day and what a perfect day to be by the waterfront. I was very impressed with the Veg Food Fest 2016 run by Toronto Vegetarian Association – a non-profit from Toronto – in partnership with Harbourfront Centre. I really enjoyed this event with the beautiful waterfront views, variety of vendors, workshops, samples from vendors, demonstrations, live music, and the atmosphere itself. I also enjoyed interacting with vendors and learning more about the vegan lifestyle as I’m still new to it as some of you might know (on a diary-free diet with a mild tolerance for milk as I still do eat meat). I attended this event with of course my sis who also loves attending these events, my 2nd foodie partner besides my mom…:)

Beautiful view of the waterfront at Harbourfront for the event

As this is my 1st time attending the Veg Food Fest 2016, I didn’t get a chance to do everything at the event such as watching cooking demos or attending the workshops or speakers seminars as there were a lot to see and sample. So I’m hoping next year I will try to attend one of them as I was excited to find out MasterChef Canada: Mary Berg was there this year and missed it.

Here are some more detailed information about Veg Food Fest 2016:

  • When: September 9-11, 2016
  • Location: Harbourfront Centre
  • Host: Toronto Vegetarian Association
  • How long has this festival been running for: This is their 32nd Veg Food Fest
  • What’s New This Year: Expanded their location to East side of Harbourfront Centre, 1st ever Veg Out relaxing zone, World Café will feature King’s Café, Green Zebra, Boon Burter and more.
  • Activities: workshops, lectures, fitness classes, music, panel discussions, cooking demos
  • Mission: “Inspiring people to choose a healthier, greener, more compassionate lifestyle through plant-based eating.” –Veg Food Fest Official Website

My Top Fave Desserts at Veg Food Fest 2016:

  • Nanashake – their delicious Nanapops of course, tried their delicious healthy yet yummy Mango & Strawberry mixed flavour one and loved it!! Who wouldn’t? I love anything mango!! As for those who don’t know, I always visit Nanashake shop before so it is no doubt that I love their yummy frozen desserts and always love seeing what new products that they come up with. If you haven’t been to their shop before, I highly recommend it, it’s definitely worth a trip to enjoy a delicious and healthy treat with a warm friendly welcome from their amazing staff.
  • Sweet Teeth Vegan Food Truck – 1st time finally trying Sweet Teeth Vegan as I been waiting to try it from the other festival but didn’t have a chance. Unfortunately this time there was no vegan ice cream left, but I still tried it anyways and got the OG, which was their Belgian waffle with fresh strawberries, strawberry sauce and instead of ice cream got whipped cream instead. Despite no ice cream, it was delicious the waffle, loved it was freshly made and soft and the strawberries was the best part to top it off!! Definitely coming back next time with the ice cream..:)
  • Sweets From the Earth – Tried their delicious vegan mini Strawberry Cupcake, which was absolutely delicious with the cake part of the cupcake was moist and soft and loved the frosting as it wasn’t too sweet! I also bought some Oatmeal Raisin cookies to bring home and enjoyed it while I was at home. Loved the cookies, you can’t even tell it was a vegan cookie, simply delicious. This is my 1st time discovering Sweets From the Earth and would love to try their other vegan products. They are a family-owned business and maintains two production facilities. Both are egg-free, dairy-free, and kosher. One is dedicated peanut- and nut-free and the other is dedicated wheat and gluten free. Products are available in stores across Canada, with new retailers being added all the time. (Info from their website). That’s a quick information about Sweets From the Earth if you are interested. You can check out their website link below after my blog entry.

I also got to visit Tori’s Bakeshop booth, but unfortunately they were out of my Vanilla cupcakes sadly I don’t eat chocolate (another fact if you didn’t know about me, shocker I know who doesn’t love chocolate and desserts go as a pair, that’s me a bit strange one here lol!). They had beautiful cupcakes display that I had to admit look delicious, check out my photo below. I’m hoping to stop by their bakeshop one day. Can’t wait to!

There were some booths that were giving out some free samples and who doesn’t love samples? I got a sample of Veggemo: 1st non-dairy beverage to originate from veggies. I got the original flavour as there were two other ones giving out as well as unsweetened and vanilla. I never tried Veggemo non-dairy beverage before so I thought it would be great to try it out and see if I like it so I can use it as part of my food dietary. Veggemo uses pea protein, tapioca, and potato to create this delicious non-dairy beverage. I’m looking forward to trying it!! You can find out where you can buy one yourself or more information on Veggemo at their website here -> Veggemo.

It was a fun foodie day filled with yummy & delicious sweet treats and desserts and who could have guess it was dairy-free, healthy and plant-based yet it tastes so delicious still. As I’m still learning my new dietary living dairy-free, part vegan that I’m enjoying and happy to see there are other options for people who can’t eat dairy or choose to be vegan, that I can still enjoy my love for desserts still without having dairy in it. I love attending these events who open my mind and see what products are out there that I didn’t know before. So if you didn’t attend, Veg Food Fest 2016 this year, I highly recommend coming to check out this event, come & sample some delicious foods and maybe you might discover some new products that you didn’t know before? Always a plus is the event is free.

I look forward to attending next year Veg Food Fest 2017!!!

My New Fave Healthy & 100% Yummy Dessert Place: Nanashake

Hi everyone,

Welcoming everyone back to my sweet blog!! Did you all miss me?? 🙂 It’s been awhile since my last blog post and now I’m back sharing what I love to eat the most, which are my sweet desserts with you all.

With the weather finally warming up and starting to feel like Spring and soon summer, I was thinking what cool dessert would satisfy my sweet cravings during the warmer months in Toronto then my fave frozen yogurt. I love frozen yogurt and with my new dietary changes (please see my Sweet Update if you are wondering why), I have discovered a new healthy frozen yogurt dessert place called: Nanashake.

Nanashake is the first delicious vegan frozen dessert place in Toronto opened recently in March 2016, located in the North York area by the Sheppard subway station. It is at one of the retail stores within the newer condos. It is a small & hidden gem but a charming & friendly dessert place. Nanashake being a vegan dessert place, their Nanashake’s treats are all made plant-made ingredients. Everything in their store is made freshly everyday and they use all-natural components for their products.

They offer a variety of flavours for the frozen dessert such as: the Original, Chocolate Delight, Strawberry Funshine, Spiced Date, Rosey Pistachio, Minty Chocolate, and the Affogato. They also offer a more frozen dessert called: Nanapops, which is like a popsicle size dessert. I hope that they would explore & expand with their flavours for the frozen yogurt as I love more sweet fruity flavours such as mango or raspberry, etc.

I had to make a 2nd visit to Nanashake because the 1st time I went the flavor I wanted – Strawberry Funshine was sold out as it is one of their popular flavours. On my 2nd visit to Nanashake, I was again greeted by their friendly and knowledgeable staff. I took some time to speak with their staff and with my new dietary changes still learning more about non-diary products that it was interesting to learn more about. I love their friendly and warm atmosphere with their bright yellow concept in the store making it a fun and relaxing place to enjoy! I definitely love their theme with their monkey making it a fun dessert place!!

After finally trying the Strawberry Funshine, I absolutely loved it!! It is a combination of banana and strawberry flavours with nuts in it and you can’t even tell it is a vegan dessert as it tastes just as good as any other dessert I had. I also had a sample of the Original flavour which was surprisingly to me still very good as I normally love more fruity tastes with my desserts. I definitely found my new frozen yogurt dessert spot not just for the summer but year-round.

If you are looking for a healthy & delicious frozen yogurt dessert, look no further than Nanashake made with natural ingredients. Recently Nana Shake changed their store hours and is open longer hours from Tuesday – Sunday from 12-8pm. Perfect timing for the summer and for me too as I love stopping by a little bit later after work.

I am looking forward to coming back to Nanashake to enjoy more of my sweet & healthy yet delicious frozen yogurt dessert and seeing what new items will they bring to their shop.

So I’m off to the wonderful & Magical world of Disney next week for my vacation, for now I leave you with this sweet & cool dessert place to try! Let me know what you think of it, did you enjoy it as much as I did, please leave your comments below. Hopefully I will bring back some sweet & magical desserts to share with you my readers from my trip. Until then….
