Happy 4 Year Blog Anniversary!!!

Hi everyone,

On this day, February 23 back in 2014, is when I first started my sweet dessert blog! Wow I can’t believe it’s been 4 years now since I started this blog and it has grown so much from where I have started!! With each year that passes, my blog continues to grow and expand sharing my love for dairy free desserts, food events and travel.

I started this blog to share with everyone my love for food and more particularly my love for desserts and sweets. I couldn’t imagine where it would have taken me as I started out blogging while I was working as an Admin to just last year leaving my full time Admin work to pursue and focus on my blog. I believe on pursuing my happiness and what I love doing more is with my blog rather that my full time work that was unfulfilling for my career goals. I’m in a much happier place now and staying focused & motivated through my love for desserts, food events and travel.

For those who don’t know, I am on a dairy free food diet due to my food sensitivities, which I only recently discovered early last year. I have incorporated my dairy free diet along with my blog as I found out that you can still enjoy desserts that are dairy free. I am still learning and discovering new dairy free foods and I love sharing them on my blog with you guys.

Me at last year’s Vegan Food & Drink Festival 2017

I like to thank Food Bloggers of Canada (official website) for assisting me with the blogging community. I joined Food Bloggers of Canada community late in 2014 to share and network with other Canadian bloggers as well as providing food blogging resources to assist me in the world of blogging as I was new to it and it’s a great group to be part of. I continue to learn, network and grow within this friendly and amazing food community.

Of course, I wouldn’t be here without my readers, so I would like to take this time to THANK YOU my sweet and amazing readers for letting me share my love for desserts, sweets, food events, and travel with you!! I look forward to bringing you more sweetness and foodie adventures for many years to come!!!

To celebrate my 4 Years Blog Anniversary, I stopped by a new bakery of course not a surprise right? 😉 I checked out Whisked Gluten-free Bakery located in Scarborough part of Toronto. Whisked Gluten-free Bakery offers a variety of baked goods that are gluten-free, dairy free, egg-free, soy-free options from cupcakes, macarons, bread, cookies, scones, muffins, pies, cakes and more. I love the variety that they offer!! Because I enjoy dairy free bake goods & desserts and they offer dairy free desserts, I was happy to discover this new cozy and friendly bakery in Scarborough, which is closer to home for me. There were so many different options for me to choose and it was like heaven for me to be there as I love sweets!! Great and friendly customer service by the staff there to be patient with me while I decided what yummy desserts and baked goods to choose.

From Whisked Gluten-free Bakery website more details about their products – “To make products that are allergy-friendly focusing specifically on Gluten Allergies and Intolerances. It is our goal to provide high quality Gluten-Free products made from the best ingredients that are great tasting, have a high nutritional content and are priced at a fair market value.”

What desserts did I ended up getting? I finally decided on delicious dairy free cupcakes – Strawberry and Vanilla cupcakes, 3 macarons – Strawberry, Passion Fruit & Cappuccino flavours, and my fave type of cookie – Oatmeal Raisin. My fave is definitely the dairy free Strawberry cupcake as the cake itself was moist and perfect amount of sweetness and surprise there was a fresh Strawberry filling inside the cupcake!! I loved it!! I love their beautiful frosting technique so pretty!! Check out the desserts below.

My 2017 Year In Review

Hi everyone,

Helloooo 2018!! 👋 As we already coming to the end of the 1st month of 2018 in January, I’m back with my 1st official blog post of the year. I hope everyone is enjoying the 1st month of 2018 despite the very freezing temperatures then now warmer days we are getting in Toronto, the ups and downs of the weird weather for winter?? 😜 I took a bit of a break to relax from the busy Holiday Season and to also refocus & recharge again in the first few weeks of January with my winter getaway to Niagara Falls (you can see more photos on my Instagram). It was a beautiful & restful yet short getaway as I always love visiting Niagara Falls and enjoy it’s natural beauty even in the winter with the beautiful Frozen Falls. A great 1st trip to start off 2018!

The beautiful Frozen Niagara Falls View in 2018

As we start this New Year of 2018, I like to reflect on my 2017 Year and recap & share with you as I continue my tradition every January with my Year In Review post.

Reflecting On A Year of Changes In 2017

In 2017, for me, it was a year of making changes and discovering where my career path was heading and I officially left my full-time Administrative Assistant job to pursue and focus my attention to this blog as a food blogger and writer. It was a difficult decision to make, but after being unhappy and stressed in a job for quite some time now, I decided this was the best decision I could make. I’m now at a happier and stress-free place where I enjoy and continue my passion & love for food particularly desserts to share with my readers. I am looking forward to pursuing new opportunities for my blog and focus on new goals in 2018.

I continue with my adjustments with my food sensitivity to dairy products in 2017 and discovering new foods that fit with my new diet plans.

In 2017, I also got to travel to a few beautiful places and exploring some new and returning faves places such as Niagara Falls, Las Vegas, NV, London, ON, Kingston, ON, Belleville and to Ottawa for the Food Bloggers of Canada Conference where it was held this year in honor of Canada’s 150 Birthday. I love travelling and I’m looking forward to exploring new places and searching for new & delicious foodie places to share with you guys. I’m excited for my one big trip this year already booked for May to beautiful Jamaica…😊

I attended some delicious food festivals in 2017 such as my 1st time to Niagara VegFest and back at my fave food festivals such as Taste of Toronto, Vegan Food & Drink Festival and VegFood Fest. I love attending food festivals and events to discover and learn more about foods! I can’t wait to attend more delicious food festivals in 2018!!

My Top 3 Best Dessert Places for Christmas Desserts 2017

Season’s Greetings everyone!! 🎄🎅🎁⛄

Happy Holidays to all my sweet readers!! This is my Christmas & Holiday edition blog entry for December as every year I love sharing with you guys my fave and new bakeries to go to for Christmas desserts. What is Christmas dinners, parties, and the Holidays itself without desserts, right?? Usually this is always a busy time of year for most people and if you are looking for desserts, treats or baked goods for either your Holiday parties or Christmas dinners or whatever the event is. That’s why I’m here to share and recommend some of my fave bakeries and places to get Holiday desserts.

I love the Holiday Season and getting festive!! Christmas desserts are the perfect way to get into the Christmas spirit and fulfill your sweet Christmasy cravings! I enjoy my Christmas desserts in the entire month of December lol!! 😋 Isn’t Holidays the perfect time to enjoy more than one desserts? 😊 Who could resist right??

Here are my Top 3 Best Desserts Bakeshops that I highly recommend you should go to:

1. Kelly’s Bake Shoppe

My 1st bakeshop I’m recommending is – Kelly’s Bake Shoppe and they are located in the Burlington area. Kelly’s Bake Shoppe is one of my newly discovered vegan bakeshops that I found this summer and I am in love with this bakeshop as it has the best vegan cupcakes!! Even if you don’t live in the Burlington area like me (I live in Toronto), it is definitely worth the trip to Burlington for Kelly’s cupcakes or baked goods. I have travelled to Kelly’s on a number of times already just to visit and enjoy their sweet cupcakes and other baked goods. That’s how good and delicious the cupcakes are at Kelly’s that it is worth the travel. Though Kelly’s now delivers to Toronto and other cities and please check their website for the exact details.

Me in front of their beautiful mural at the side of their bakeshop

For those who haven’t heard of Kelly’s Bake Shoppe, the bakeshop owners are a mother/daughter team – Kelly and Erinn. Kelly’s Bake Shoppe makes healthy and high quality ingredients baked goods that offers gluten-free, dairy-free, egg-free, butter-free, vegan and peanut-free baked goods that are delicious as well. They are well known for their cupcakes and cakes as well as they offer cookies, soft serve, muffins, brownies & bars, scones, and donuts. They also now serve coffee, lattes, hot chocolate and tea with their own Kelly’s specialty blend coffee released recently.

I recently visited Kelly’s Bakeshop particularly for their special Christmas menu that is available for the entire month of December. I love their Christmas menu as it has a variety of cupcakes to cookies, donuts and more! I was excited to try their Christmas treats!! This wasn’t my 1st visit to Kelly’s as I first discovered Kelly’s during the summer and I been waiting to share my fave vegan bakeshop with my readers. Why I haven’t til now?? Its been a busy summer and Fall as you know, but I’m happy to share my secret not so secret now fave vegan bakeshop. If you follow my Instagram you would have already seen a few posts about Kelly’s…😉 I wish Kelly’s has a store location in Toronto so it would be closer for me to enjoy more cupcakes more often…😉 I have fallen in love with this quaint city of Burlington that I always love visiting it and their beautiful waterfront. It’s definitely worth the travel for these cupcakes!!

One of the features I love about Kelly’s is that they have a special feature cupcake every month along with their regular cupcakes that they have weekly. I’m always excited to find out what cupcake is it for each month and see if I need to take a trip for a cupcake that month…😉 I like that Kelly’s has a variety of baked goods to offer even though their focus are on cupcakes. I also like Kelly’s contests that they do and interact with their customers.

Kelly’s Christmas Banner (Credit to Kelly’s Bakeshoppe)

With every visit to Kelly’s, I’m always walking in to the aroma of fresh cupcakes and baked goods along with a smile and greeting as I enter in the bakeshop. Their bakeshop is medium size with a long center table and seating on benches on the side making it enough room not too small for a number of guests. I love the atmosphere and the lighting in the bakeshop making it a friendly and welcoming bakeshop to eat and enjoy your treats as I spend a bit of time there with my friend chatting and enjoying our treats.

They have excellent customer service and a very friendly staff who has been very helpful to me if I have any questions about the products. If you are wondering, yes you can pre-order cupcakes or other baked goods for the same day pick-up on the phone with a deposit or order your cupcakes ahead of time. It’s good for me as I travel from Toronto & want to make sure the cupcakes/baked goods I would like is there for me. As they have a different cupcakes on certain days so be sure to check out their menu ahead of time. My fave cupcakes so far are the Unicorn & Lemon Raspberry flavours.

On this visit, I pre-ordered the Gingerbread & Lemon, Christmas Cake and Frosty the Snowman along with 2 Gingerbread cookies made in the shape of reindeers. As some of you know, I love gingerbread cookies or just gingerbread flavour itself especially during the Christmas season!! So there was no doubt I had to try the Gingerbread & Lemon and loved it!! If you haven’t tried one of Kelly’s cupcakes before, they are vegan and you wouldn’t know they were vegan from the look and especially the taste of it. It tastes like a regular cupcake and I love that I can still enjoy my sweets that are dairy free because of Kelly’s they make their cupcakes – dairy-free, plant-based, gluten-free, egg-free and vegan. All their cupcakes that I have tried are moist for the cake part and their frosting aren’t that sweet as most cupcake places, it has the right amount of sweetness in it. Their mint buttercream frosting on the Christmas Cake is the best, I am I love with the mint frosting!! LOL!! Some of Kelly’s cupcakes has filling in them and wow those are the best ones as they make the cupcake pop of flavour in your mouth. They are also offering a special New Year’s cupcake only on Dec 30 & 31.

Our (my friend & my) complimentary cupcakes – Lemon & Christmas Candy Cane flavours

I am absolutely love Kelly’s vegan cupcakes!!! They are the best and my fave vegan go to cupcakes!!

If you are looking for Christmas desserts, treats, or even gifts (they are also selling their cookbooks & tees in the store) – look no further than Kelly’s Bake Shoppe, I highly recommend this delicious & amazing vegan bakeshop. If you don’t live in the Burlington area, it’s definitely worth the travel or special delivery for December. I am looking forward to my next Kelly’s visit unfortunately have to wait til 2018!! Can’t wait to enjoy more vegan cupcakes and to try other baked goods that I haven’t tried yet!!

2. Mad Batter Bakers

One of my absolutely fave place to get the best and soft gingerbread cookies in Toronto is Mad Batter Bakers. Last year I recommended Mad Batter Bakers too and this year is no difference, for my new readers who haven’t read why I love Mad Batter Bakers gingerbread cookies, let me tell you more and for those who have, let me refresh you with their soft and sweet smell of gingerbread aroma.

Mad Batter Bakers is located in the Liberty Village area in Toronto. I first discovered Mad Batter Bakers at the One of a Kind Christmas Show a few years ago and ever since then I don’t go anywhere else for my soft & delicious Gingerbread cookies for Christmas. This is the 1st year that Mad Batter Bakers wasn’t at the One of the Kind Christmas show to focus on their bakeshop instead. I was excited to visit their newly renovated bakeshop. Their bakeshop is relatively small, but very cozy and the smell of gingerbread cookies makes you feel warm as you are welcomed by their friendly staff and baker. They make the gingerbread cookies right in the shop in the kitchen. I love how they decorated the shop and I always have a hard time choosing which gingerbread cookies I get.

Gingerbread cookies always makes me feel like it’s Christmas and the Holiday season!! Besides how delicious their cookies taste, their cookies look so pretty too, I simply love their not overly sweet icing on their cookies as some places make the icings really sweet. Mad Batter Bakers also offer Old Fashioned Sugar Cookies. They also offer gluten free version of both the gingerbread cookies and sugar cookies. I love that they have options for different types of people to enjoy.

This Christmas season, Mad Batter Bakers has some new beautiful and delicious products, which includes their new Limited Edition Canadiana Christmas House for Canada 150 and little ‘Canadiana’ cookie set along with mini gingerbread house sets. You can also find their gingerbread cookies at Toronto Christmas Market in the Distillery District.

So if you are looking for the best gingerbread cookies in Toronto, don’t look further than Mad Batter Bakers, come by visit this quaint bakery shop for yourself to see what I’m talking about. It surely will not disappoint you!! It is worth the trip to visit and taste and pick up some of these amazing & soft cookies for desserts and even gifts. Please make sure you check their hours and you can also phone ahead to see if they are open as they have special hours for this last week for Christmas.

For more information about Mad Batter Bakers, please see below:

3. Tori’s Bakeshop

One of my faves vegan bakeshop in Toronto that I discovered last year – Tori’s Bakeshop is my last recommendation for Christmas desserts. I haven’t been able to share about Tori’s Bakeshop in a blog post until now. If you haven’t heard of Tori’s Bakeshop, they are an eco-friendly, all-natural organic bakery that offers dairy-free, egg-free, and refined sugar-free treats of many types! They also carry a selection of gluten free products as well. They bake their products fresh every morning with the highest quality of ingredients. Tori’s Bakeshop baked good ranges from their delicious cupcakes to donuts (one of my fave donuts is a must have when I’m there) to cookies to thumbprint cookies to cinnamon buns to cruffins to light sandwiches and more. They also make custom cakes. This Christmas they have their Gingerbread house kits as well. I love the variety of baked goods that Tori’s Bakeshop has to offer!! They also have coffee, lattes, teas and juices.

Recently this year, Tori’s Bakeshop opened a new location in the Canary District at the corner of Front and Cooperage. This would be their 2nd location. I recently finally visited their new location at the Canary District and I love the new modern, beautiful, and open space at this location. It also has benches on the side to enjoy your sweet desserts and in the summer or spring they have patio bench & table to eat outside. It’s a quaint medium size bakery with a beautiful modern twist compared to the original location in the Beaches. As I always love visiting the Beaches location as well, it’s great that they have two different atmosphere for the 2 locations.

It was a hard decision to choose which delicious desserts that I wanted to have with my recent visit to their Canary District location. I ended up with their Christmas cupcake – Coconut & Raspberry Pomegranate with raspberry filling inside, it was soooo good!! I love their cupcakes here as the cake itself is moist and freshly made you can tell when you eat it. I also took home some goodies including 2 Raspberry Thumbprint cookies and their Vanilla heart shaped donut with pink frosting on top!! I’m in love with their donuts, I haven’t found a bakeshop in Toronto that makes vegan donuts like they do so far!! It’s soft and the right amount of sweetness to the donuts, they taste like normal donuts and you can’t tell that it’s vegan and I love that!!

So if you are looking for a variety of delicious baked goods for Christmas desserts to share with your family, friends or co-workers, I highly recommend Tori’s Bakeshop in Toronto. Don’t forget to call or check with them their Holiday Hours as this is their last week open before they closed for the Holidays!!! So if you would like to check them out, why not this week for their delicious and warm desserts!!

For more information about Tori’s Bakeshop, please see below:

Tori’s Bakeshop – Website – click here

Address – Canary District location – 430 Front Street East and Beaches location – 2188 Queen Street East

You can follow Tori’s Bakeshop on their social media networks on Facebook @TorisBakeshop, Twitter @TorisBakeshop and Instagram @TorisBakeshop.

If you don’t get a chance this Christmas to check out those bakeries be sure to visit them in 2018.

I hope that they satisfy your sweet cravings as much as they have satisfied mines.

My Food Travels – Spring Getaway 2017 to London, Ontario

Hi everyone!

Welcome back to my sweet foodie blog!! I’m back now!! Can you believe that it is August and half the summer is already over?? 😁 Summer is going by quickly, but we still have the rest of the month to enjoy these sunny and rainy days?? There seem to be more rainfall this year than normal, which I’m not too fond of. I hope that everyone is still enjoying their summer so far like me.

I decided to take a mini break from writing in July as I had a busy schedule with my mini summer getaway to Belleville and Kingston along with other activities like attending food festivals, watching baseball, spending time with my family and more. What have you guys been up to this summer?? Did anyone discover a new bakery that I can try?? You can leave me a comment below, I always love to hear from my readers.

Quick Update

Getting things back on track, I’m also working on a few ideas and looking for new delicious bakeries or restaurants or sharing with you my next foodie events in August as in August & September there are a few food festivals to attend that I’m looking forward to.

Don’t forget if you want the latest updates on my next blog post or to follow my foodie adventures, please follow me on Twitter @SweetBFoodie24 OR on Instagram where I’m posting a bit more stories now so you can check those out too @SweetBFoodie24. For any upcoming food festivals or events I’m attending, check my Instagram stories as well as my photos for the live updates.

2nd Feature – Food Travels in London, Ontario

My next feature in my Food Travels is in London, Ontario where I went to London for a mini getaway in the Spring time on the last week of May 2017. I haven’t been to London before even though I was born in Toronto, ON I am still discovering new cities within my province of Ontario. I love exploring new cities or towns so I was excited to go to London as I read and heard that London’s culinary scene is known for it’s local and seasonal food from farm to table and their outstanding farmer’s market and on the rise in a lot of their restaurants are plant-based cuisine. I was excited to explore what London’s vegan type of foods has to offer and esp discovering their vegan bakeries.

I look forward to sharing with you in this blog post more about my foodie adventures in London, ON. I love travelling in the Spring as well because that’s when warm weather is back after the winter and travelling in the Spring I find that it is less expensive than travelling in the summer. You can still enjoy warm weather with less crowd than the summer for sure. I always prefer to travel during off seasons than high peak seasons.

I travelled by VIA Rail Train to London, ON as with my 1st Feature to Kingston, ON (click here -> Fall Getaway 2016 to Kingston, Ontario ) I mentioned why I love travelling by travel, you can check out that post for more information. Overall, for me, it’s the easiest, comfortable and relaxing way to travel from Toronto to London or to any destination within Ontario or Quebec. I have yet to travel further yet but train for me is a good option for Ontario and Quebec areas. This year I love the signage for celebrating Canada’s special “Canada 150” year on the trains.

Quick Facts on London

Some quick facts on London, Ontario for those who would to know more information on this city:

My Experience – Sightseeing

Overall, I enjoyed this small town feel in the city of London, Ontario for my mini Spring getaway. As I live in a big city in Toronto. I loved that London has a small and friendly town city feel with their downtown similar to Toronto easily accessible with shopping and variety of restaurants to choose from. I love the combination of the city life and nature surroundings in London with the Thames River and parks within the city.

With my short visit to London, I was able to visit a few of the main attractions including Covent Garden Market (which is a large market filled with fresh produce, shops, restaurants and a farmer’s market located in the heart of downtown London), Museum London, Eldon House Historic Site (located in downtown London’s oldest residence that has been preserved and maintained since 1960 and was donated to they city of London by the Harris family. It has the most beautiful gardens in the city.), Budweiser Gardens, visited a few parks including Victoria Park, Ivey Park along the Thames River, and Harris Park and of course visited a few bakery shops (details below my fave bakery shops).

There are still many more things to do and see in London, ON, which I would love to come back and visit again. I did quite a few things and visited and ate so much delicious foods and desserts in London lol…😄 in one short visit…😊 I left London feeling so full and satisfied my sweet cravings lol!! But in a good way!! It was a fun culinary foodie adventure in London and I look forward to my next visit!!

Hotel

I stayed at the Residence Inn by Marriott London Downtown hotel. It is conveniently located downtown London, Ontario on Colbourne Street at King Street making it easily accessible to the downtown core. It as only a 10 mins walk from the VIA Rail train station, which I was happy that I was able to get to the hotel by walking.

The Residence Inn London Downtown Hotel was recently renovated with a fresh, newly updated and modern bold look to the overall hotel and even the rooms. I been staying with the brand Residence Inn and Marriott and I always love their spacious rooms compared to other hotels. And this was no difference, I stayed in a 1 bedroom suite and loved how big and spacious the room was and loved the newly updated look. My bedroom was in a separate room on it’s own and love how the living room and kitchen in it’s own space. It felt cozy and right at home like a small apartment.

I loved the location of the hotel as I was able to take a bus or walk to most of the restaurants, shopping, and attractions within the hotel area. Other great features about the hotel are complimentary wifi and full American breakfast in the morning. Only negative is there was no pool in this hotel. As I love to swim especially in the evening after a day of exploring the city, that would have been nice. But I can’t complain as everything else about the hotel was exactly what I expected with a lot of great features.

The Lobby of Hotel

Most importantly, I had great customer service both at the front desk very friendly and welcoming when I first arrived and checking out along with any issues I had during my stay, which I didn’t. They were very helpful as well with any directions I needed within the downtown area.

Overall, another amazing stay with my fave brand – Marriott, this time staying at Residence Inn London Downtown. I highly recommend this hotel if you are planning a stay in London and especially great for longer stays with the spacious rooms making it feel more like home than a hotel with kitchenette, business center services available and lots of space to work.

When I visited Organic Works Bakery, the Eldon House was still under construction on the outside, but was still able to locate it. I love this rustic and cozy bakery with so many options to choose from. Great customer service by the staff as well and very helpful explaining about their products as well. It was hard for me to choose, but chose the Vanilla Raspberry Swirl cupcake and took home a few organic apple oats cookies as I love cookies so how could I resist lol!! The cupcake was moist and soft, the frosting wasn’t too sweet, it was just perfect!! I loved the cupcake!! I loved their outside signage, very cute with bright & bold colours! Despite the moving process, inside their old bakeshop, love the unique and cozy environment with the boomboxes as decorations and a combination of the music and baking! I had the Tropical Punch cupcake and definitely felt like it was a summery cupcake filled with sweetness. The cake of the cupcake was moist and not too sweet. I look forward to my next visit to The Boombox Bakeshop to check out their new location and see what it looks like along with sampling more of their cupcakes and other baked goods. Easter Treats by Short & Sweet Bakeshop

Hi everyone,

Hope everyone had a relaxing and foodie during Easter weekend (April 15-16) celebrating with your family and friends. I love celebrating Easter at this time of year in April where it starts feeling like Spring with warm and sunny days ahead, flowers are starting to bloom, and it starts looking like Spring with colourful flowers, trees leaves and Easter eggs.

The best part of celebrating Easter is of course the delicious desserts after your huge dinner feast surrounded by your family and friends. It is the perfect excuse to savour some sweet desserts and at the same time sharing it with your family, which makes it sweeter to enjoy together.

During long Easter weekend, I stopped by Short & Sweet Bakeshop at their new location on Yonge Street located at Yonge and Davisville. I been to Short & Sweet Bakeshop a few times now at their Avenue Road location and enjoyed their delicious cupcakes. I thought it was perfect timing to finally stop at their new location on Yonge Street as they opened it earlier this year in January 2017.

For those who haven’t heard of Short & Sweet Bakeshop, here are a few quick facts about this sweet bakeshop.

  • Founded in December 2009 by Orli Levy
  • Their baked goods are handcrafted using only the finest ingredients
  • Freshly made everyday
  • 100% Nut Free Bakery
  • Offers cupcakes, custom cakes, sammies, cookies
  • Also offers gluten-free cupcakes
  • Cater Events such as weddings, baby showers, and more

I love the new location on Yonge Street as it is conveniently a short walk about 5 minutes from Yonge & Davisville intersection, easily accessible those taking transit. It is a cozy, bright and friendly bakeshop. I like the interior look with wooden tables and the fresh look with little plants on the tables making it feel like home. I love how the sun shines inside the bakeshop creating an uplifting and welcoming feeling.

I was greeted by two friendly staff at the counter. There were quite a few cupcake selections left even though it was in the late afternoon when I arrived so I got lucky as I know usually they sell out pretty quickly. It was hard to decide which one as they all looked so pretty and delicious to try.

I finally decided on 2 of their Easter theme cupcakes and the lemon Raspberry cupcake to share with my sisters. I love sharing my desserts with my sisters as it is always sweeter to share…:)

I ended up loving the lemon Raspberry cupcake as I love the surprise lemon filling inside the cupcake that made it so delicious! The cupcake itself was moist and soft. Overall, definitely would stop by again to Short & Sweet Bakeshop for more delicious cupcakes and other baked goods as I would love to try their cookies as some of you know, I love my cookies so hopefully next time I would get to sample one.

Even though Easter has come and gone, if you are looking for a delicious and sweet cupcake to satisfied your cupcake craving, I highly recommend stopping by Short & Sweet Bakeshop yourself to enjoy a pretty & sweet cupcake and see why I love these cupcakes.

For now, I leave you with these pretty & sweet cupcake thoughts and I’m off on my next search for my next sweet or maybe healthy dessert bakeshop or cafe.

Don’t forget to come back next month to see what I discover. Also you can get my latest updates for my upcoming blog posts or follow my food adventures through Twitter @SweetBFoodie24 OR Instagram @SweetBFoodie24 so you won’t miss a thing of my yummy foodie adventures.

Happy 3 Year Blog Anniversary!!!

Hi everyone!!

On this day, February 23 back in 2014, is when I first started this food blog site! I can’t believe it’s been 3 years now since I started this blog and taking a look back on how much I have grown from 3 years ago to now is something I didn’t expect.

I started this blog to share with everyone my love for food and more particularly my love for desserts and sweets. I couldn’t imagine how much my blog has grown within 3 years and how much I have grown in learning about food itself and my own food sensitivity with non-dairy products. I am still learning about the new “vegan” foods & desserts and discovering what my body can take. I still love my sweets & now share delicious yet healthy dessert places with my readers.

I am also happy and excited to share on my blog with my readers my passion for events and travel through attending Toronto foodie events & my travel experiences.

I have to thank Food Bloggers of Canada (website -> click here) for providing me a place to share and network with other Canadian bloggers as well as providing food blogging resources to assist me in the world of blogging. I continue to learn, network and grow within this friendly and amazing food community.

Of course, I wouldn’t be here without my readers, so I would like to take this time to THANK YOU each one of my amazing readers for letting me share my love for desserts, sweets, events, and travel with you!! I look forward to bringing you more sweetness and foodie adventures for many years to come!!!

On my 3rd Year Anniversary, I celebrated at one of my newly discovered fave vegan bakeshop, Tori’s Bakeshop. Tori’s Bakeshop is located in the Beaches area on Queen Street East. This bakeshop is an all-natural organic bakery that offers dairy-free, egg-free, and refined sugar-free treats and even carry a selection of gluten free products. Their bakery items range from breads, cakes, mini loaves, cookies, cupcakes, macarons, muffins and even croutons. Along with baked goods, Tori’s Bakeshop also has light healthy sandwiches for brunch/lunch. They also offer beverages such as tea & coffee as well.

I thought that this was the perfect spot to celebrate delicious sweets for my newly diet as a semi vegan now where I still enjoy yummy desserts, but with non-dairy products now.

I discovered Tori’s Bakeshop during the summer at one of the Vegan festivals and absolutely loved her delicious sweet treats. My sister and I sampled her delicious donuts.

I stopped by Tori’s Bakeshop on a warm & sunny winter weekend, it felt more like Spring weather as there were many people on the Queen street enjoying this beautiful weather. Tori’s Bakeshop is a cozy and welcoming bakeshop filled with a selection of delicious baked goods!! I couldn’t choose which sweet treat I wanted as each item looked so delicious! I ended up choosing a Strawberry Vanilla cupcake as cupcakes are one of my fave desserts and it was simply perfect, soft, moist and I loved the raspberry & strawberry filling inside, which tops the cupcake as one of the best I had. I also picked up a few shortbread cookies to go.

I will definitely be coming back to Tori’s Bakeshop for more delicious and sweet desserts as there are still lots that I haven’t even sample yet. If you haven’t been to Tori’s Bakeshop, I highly recommend you try this vegan and all natural, organic bakery. You don’t know what you are missing out on and will not be disappointed!!

I’m looking forward to continuing to share my food, events and travel adventures with you all!! I hope that you all will continue to join me in discovering new bakeries and restaurants along with sightseeing to new cities and countries for my travel foodie adventures!!

Cheers to many more sweet adventures & the years to come!!! 🍹🍰🎉

My Highlights of Veg Food Fest 2016

Hi everyone,

Can you believe that summer is already over? It’s been a busy summer with my full time job as an Admin, but it’s been filled with delicious foodie events, watching the Rogers Cup tennis and going to one baseball game at least! I hope that everyone enjoyed their summer and this very humid summer weather in T.O.

It is officially Fall now and I’m excited for the cooler weather, the beautiful colourful leaves and if you didn’t know, Fall is one of my fave season and with Fall comes sweet delicious apple desserts, warm yummy desserts and Thanksgiving of course!

Before we get into this blog post, a quick update is I am working on a special project that will be revealed soon, I’m excited about it, but it’s been taking a lot of my time so that is why there hasn’t been another sweet blog post until now and a lot of exciting events & trips such as the Food Bloggers of Canada Conference that I will be attending in October are happening the next few months so please be patient with me. So stay tuned this Fall for some exciting sweet warm posts & my special project!!

fruit_and_vegetables- 1Bfruit_and_vegetables-2bfruit_and_vegetables- 1B

To end the summer, what better way than attending an outdoor foodie event, the weekend of September 10-11, 2016, I attended my 2nd Vegan festival, but my 1st time attending this particular one – Veg Food Fest 2016, which was held at the Harbourfront Centre. I was so excited to go after my 1st vegan one despite the rainy day (you can read it my review on Vegan Food & Drink Festival 2016 -> here), I enjoyed it so much that I thought that I go to another one to see what this one has to offer. This festival was run over the weekend of 3 days from September 9-11, 2016.

I went on the Sunday on a beautiful warm sunny day and what a perfect day to be by the waterfront. I was very impressed with the Veg Food Fest 2016 run by Toronto Vegetarian Association – a non-profit from Toronto – in partnership with Harbourfront Centre. I really enjoyed this event with the beautiful waterfront views, variety of vendors, workshops, samples from vendors, demonstrations, live music, and the atmosphere itself. I also enjoyed interacting with vendors and learning more about the vegan lifestyle as I’m still new to it as some of you might know (on a diary-free diet with a mild tolerance for milk as I still do eat meat). I attended this event with of course my sis who also loves attending these events, my 2nd foodie partner besides my mom…:)

Beautiful view of the waterfront at Harbourfront for the event

As this is my 1st time attending the Veg Food Fest 2016, I didn’t get a chance to do everything at the event such as watching cooking demos or attending the workshops or speakers seminars as there were a lot to see and sample. So I’m hoping next year I will try to attend one of them as I was excited to find out MasterChef Canada: Mary Berg was there this year and missed it.

Here are some more detailed information about Veg Food Fest 2016:

  • When: September 9-11, 2016
  • Location: Harbourfront Centre
  • Host: Toronto Vegetarian Association
  • How long has this festival been running for: This is their 32nd Veg Food Fest
  • What’s New This Year: Expanded their location to East side of Harbourfront Centre, 1st ever Veg Out relaxing zone, World Café will feature King’s Café, Green Zebra, Boon Burter and more.
  • Activities: workshops, lectures, fitness classes, music, panel discussions, cooking demos
  • Mission: “Inspiring people to choose a healthier, greener, more compassionate lifestyle through plant-based eating.” –Veg Food Fest Official Website

My Top Fave Desserts at Veg Food Fest 2016:

  • Nanashake – their delicious Nanapops of course, tried their delicious healthy yet yummy Mango & Strawberry mixed flavour one and loved it!! Who wouldn’t? I love anything mango!! As for those who don’t know, I always visit Nanashake shop before so it is no doubt that I love their yummy frozen desserts and always love seeing what new products that they come up with. If you haven’t been to their shop before, I highly recommend it, it’s definitely worth a trip to enjoy a delicious and healthy treat with a warm friendly welcome from their amazing staff.
  • Sweet Teeth Vegan Food Truck – 1st time finally trying Sweet Teeth Vegan as I been waiting to try it from the other festival but didn’t have a chance. Unfortunately this time there was no vegan ice cream left, but I still tried it anyways and got the OG, which was their Belgian waffle with fresh strawberries, strawberry sauce and instead of ice cream got whipped cream instead. Despite no ice cream, it was delicious the waffle, loved it was freshly made and soft and the strawberries was the best part to top it off!! Definitely coming back next time with the ice cream..:)
  • Sweets From the Earth – Tried their delicious vegan mini Strawberry Cupcake, which was absolutely delicious with the cake part of the cupcake was moist and soft and loved the frosting as it wasn’t too sweet! I also bought some Oatmeal Raisin cookies to bring home and enjoyed it while I was at home. Loved the cookies, you can’t even tell it was a vegan cookie, simply delicious. This is my 1st time discovering Sweets From the Earth and would love to try their other vegan products. They are a family-owned business and maintains two production facilities. Both are egg-free, dairy-free, and kosher. One is dedicated peanut- and nut-free and the other is dedicated wheat and gluten free. Products are available in stores across Canada, with new retailers being added all the time. (Info from their website). That’s a quick information about Sweets From the Earth if you are interested. You can check out their website link below after my blog entry.

I also got to visit Tori’s Bakeshop booth, but unfortunately they were out of my Vanilla cupcakes sadly I don’t eat chocolate (another fact if you didn’t know about me, shocker I know who doesn’t love chocolate and desserts go as a pair, that’s me a bit strange one here lol!). They had beautiful cupcakes display that I had to admit look delicious, check out my photo below. I’m hoping to stop by their bakeshop one day. Can’t wait to!

There were some booths that were giving out some free samples and who doesn’t love samples? I got a sample of Veggemo: 1st non-dairy beverage to originate from veggies. I got the original flavour as there were two other ones giving out as well as unsweetened and vanilla. I never tried Veggemo non-dairy beverage before so I thought it would be great to try it out and see if I like it so I can use it as part of my food dietary. Veggemo uses pea protein, tapioca, and potato to create this delicious non-dairy beverage. I’m looking forward to trying it!! You can find out where you can buy one yourself or more information on Veggemo at their website here -> Veggemo.

It was a fun foodie day filled with yummy & delicious sweet treats and desserts and who could have guess it was dairy-free, healthy and plant-based yet it tastes so delicious still. As I’m still learning my new dietary living dairy-free, part vegan that I’m enjoying and happy to see there are other options for people who can’t eat dairy or choose to be vegan, that I can still enjoy my love for desserts still without having dairy in it. I love attending these events who open my mind and see what products are out there that I didn’t know before. So if you didn’t attend, Veg Food Fest 2016 this year, I highly recommend coming to check out this event, come & sample some delicious foods and maybe you might discover some new products that you didn’t know before? Always a plus is the event is free.

I look forward to attending next year Veg Food Fest 2017!!!

Me & my sis, Cindy at the Veg Food Fest 2016
