My New Fave Handcrafted Dairy Free Local Gelato Shop & An Exciting Canadian Vegan Friendly Gelato Brand

Hi everyone,

Welcome back to my sweet blog everyone!! Can’t believe August is already over & September has arrived!! How did our quarantine summer go by so fast?? Where did the time go during this pandemic?? I know I been away from my blog for awhile, did you guys miss me?? 😉 During the pandemic, it sure made me miss the simple things like checking out new bakeshops or dairy free ice cream parlors to share with you guys!!

I hope that everyone enjoyed their staycation this summer and took the time to explore more of our city Toronto or Ontario safely with our travel restrictions due to the pandemic. I know it’s been a weird last few months in quarantine and adjusting to this “new normal” in life. Hopefully things continue to be better and we slowly get back to being more normal.

I’m finally ready & excited to share my late summer post with you guys!! Thanks everyone for being so patient with me for this late post as it’s never too late to still enjoy a sweet & frozen treat like gelato on a late summer day or even on our warm Fall days! Toronto tends to have sometimes hot Fall days in September. There is always time to enjoy a sweet dairy free soft serve, sorbet or gelato in every season!

Nani’s Gelato

I’m happy and excited to share with you a new handcrafted & artisan unique gelato place, Nani’s Gelato located in the stylish streets of downtown Toronto near Yonge & Bloor that opened on May 29, 2020. They serve gelato, soft serves and sorbets. Why I love Nani’s Gelato? They offer dairy free & vegan options for selected soft serves flavours and all their sorbets are dairy free, which is was perfect for me as you guys know I’m allergic to dairy.

Nani’s Gelato all their gelatos & sorbets are made with fresh premium ingredients from scratch on a daily basis. At Nani’s Gelato, they don’t use any artificial colorings or powders to make their gelato or sorbet. They focus on serving the best handcrafted premium gelato in a small batch made freshly daily. They don’t compromise on quality. They want the best final products for their customers.

As well, Parry (the owner) discovered that gelato was the best option for flexibility in making vegan friendly and dairy free flavours, which caters to more people suited for their dietary needs. I love that Nani’s Gelato decided to expand their gelato and sorbets to people like me who are dairy free as there is now more people who don’t eat dairy anymore because it is a healthier option.

What is special about Nani’s Gelato is that their flavours are inspired by Asian and Indian flavours, which is an unique twist and I love that creativity that they bring to their gelato and frozen desserts. So every week, they change up their gelato and sorbet flavours to new and exciting sweet different Asian or Indian inspired flavours. Isn’t that great? I love trying new flavours and discovering new flavours you love!!

History of Nani’s Gelato

In late 2018, Nani’s Gelato was officially created by Parry who was inspired by his father’s work in the restaurant industry and who purchase an iconic local ice cream parlour where Parry love of ice cream developed. Parry started Nani’s Gelato as a food truck and with his success, his business started growing as local customers fell in love with Parry’s handcrafted premium gelato and sorbets and loving the Asian and Indian flavours that he finally opened his own store earlier this year as indicated earlier located at Yonge and Bloor on Charles Street East.

I was excited to finally check out Nani’s Gelato in the beginning of August as it felt safer to go out with the virus situation. It was great to be downtown again as I haven’t been downtown since mid-March. Nani’s Gelato is a cozy and small takeout shop just on the corner of Yonge and Charles St. East. You can’t miss it!! Nani’s Gelato shop is following all Covid-19 protocols and I love how they are keeping us all safe while we still enjoy sweet and refreshing frozen desserts! The staff there is very friendly and informative about the gelato and sorbets. I felt very welcomed and loved seeing a good variety of options of flavours to choose from. They even have pints to take home with you. I ended up getting Mango Passionfruit Dairyfree Soft Serve along with their Mango Passionfruit pint to bring home to enjoy as well. Wow the Mango Passionfruit tasted like a tropical vibes in your mouth! I love the soft creamy texture as well! You can definitely tell it was handmade and handcrafted with how pure & real fruit taste to it!! I simply loved it!! Definitely one of my fave dairy free soft serves!! Already can’t wait to return back to try another new soft serve flavour!! I would love to try their Raspberry sorbetto!!

My Nani’s Gelato DF Mango Passionfruit Sorbet

I loved the Mango Passionfruit sorbet pint that I bought as well! It tasted very similar to the soft serve but in sorbet texture light & easy to melt in your mouth. I loved it!! A definite tropical vibe I can taste both the mango and passionfruit so if you love sweet and tangy taste these two combination is perfect for you.

Nani’s Gelato is definitely one of my new fave must go again gelato shop for their dairyfree soft serve and sorbet for the summer or any season because I love my sweet and refreshing sorbets all year round. Nani’s Gelato definitely brought my expectations of gelato and sorbets to a higher level and I love their premium and handcrafted products along with their unique and inspired Asian and Indian flavours of gelatos and sorbets because not every gelato shop offers what they offer in quality of taste and uniqueness of flavours!

I highly recommend Nani’s Gelato to all my readers to definitely check them out as they also offer delivery on their website if you can’t make it to the store. It’s definitely worth to order their pints (3 pints minimum). You can check out their website below for more information on delivery and their store hours.

Righteous Gelato

I’m re-introducing you to Righteous Gelato formerly known as Fiasco Gelato in case you guys didn’t know about their name change and because I still love this brand of gelato and sorbetto who has dairyfree and vegan options. I thought this is a great time to share with you guys again and if you haven’t heard about Righteous Gelato then it’s the perfect time to discover this amazing brand of gelato while in quarantine to have your own pint at home to enjoy.

Overview of Righteous Gelato

Righteous Gelato is a Calgary based company which was originally founded as a scoop shop in 2003, then acquired by James Boettcher in 2009 where he re-invented the brand and re-launched in August 2015 to a new Headquarters where a Factory and Coffee Bar location was opened in in Calgary where it is today.  They only have one retail location where all the gelato and sorbetto is hand crafted made with fresh local ingredients to their best quality. In April 2020, Fiasco Gelato was renamed to Righteous Gelato, new name but same amazing and great taste. Their motto is “Small batch made with the good stuff”.

What I love about Righteous Gelato is that all of their Gelato and Sorbetto pints are made all natural with no artificial flavours or colours. They use simple and the clean ingredients. Their Sorbetto is always dairy, gluten and animal-fat free as well as vegan friendly as well none of their products contain soy or egg, but rather a stabilizer that comes from plants. Aside from the natural sugars found in fruit, they use cane sugar to sweeten their Gelato or Sorbetto. That’s why I am recommending Righteous Gelato because it is perfect for people like me who are dairy free as well as for those who are vegan and gluten free in their diets. Righteous Gelato creates gelato and sorbetto for everyone!
I love that Righteous Gelato also offers plant based gelato, which is still creamy but 100% dairyfree. As well as having Sorbetto option, which are dairy free and vegan friendly and filled with pure 100% fruit “goodness” and still creamy and rich and refreshing to enjoy.
Having both plant based gelatos and Sorbettos available for dairy free and vegan options, I love the variety and creative flavours that they offer for both. They continue to be innovative and creating new flavours to satisfy their customers. I love that!!
Some of their flavours include: DF Strawberry Lemonade Sorbetto, DF Mango Pineapple Sorbetto, DF Strawberry Rhubarb, DF Cherry Hibiscus Kombucha, Plantbased Chocolate Peanut Butter Gelato, Plantbased Salted Hazelnut Gelato, Plantbased Peanut Butter & Jam Gelato and many more to name a few.

Their retail location is currently closed due to Covid-19 but available for Calgary customers for curbside pickup and they have Canada wide delivery as well. Also you can buy your own pint at your own local grocery store. See below which stores carries Righteous Gelato pints. You will not be disappointed!!

What cool treats do you usually cool down with during these hot summer short months in T.O or where you live?? One of my fave treats are dairy free sorbets because I love the refreshing sweet and fruity flavours especially in the summer time.

Update

I hope that you guys are excited for another blog post within a few weeks of my recent post as I been working hard & focused with my blog before my quick Vancouver trip end of July. Usually I don’t post this closely together but I couldn’t wait to share with you guys my summer post.

Fiasco Gelato

I’m excited to share with you guys my sweet summer post about my new fave Gelato and Dairy free Sorbet company called: Fiasco Gelato. Fiasco Gelato is Calgary based company which was originally founded as a scoop shop in 2003, James Boettcher then acquired by Fiasco in 2009 where he re-invented the brand and re-launched in August 2015 to a new Headquarters where Fiasco Gelato Factory and Coffee Bar was opened in in Calgary where it is today.  They only have one retail location where all the gelato and sorbetto is hand crafted made with fresh local ingredients to their best quality. They have a great selection of flavours and love that they continue to create new exciting flavours, which is why I love Fiasco Gelato. You can also take a tour of their facilities to see how their gelato & sorbetto is made.

All of their Gelato and Sorbetto pints are made all natural with no artificial flavours or colours. That’s why I am recommending Fiasco Gelato because it is perfect for people like me who are dairy free as well as for those who are vegan and gluten free in their diets.

TD Union Summer

So you may be wondering why am I recommending Fiasco Gelato products when they have one retail location in Calgary when I live in Toronto well because they have joined TD Union Summer this summer open from May 31 – August 3, 2019 located just outside Union Station. Union Summer is presented by TD to host their annual summer market to bring together Top Chefs, musicians, film screenings and live performances to union station. The market is an open beautiful lush space to feel like an oasis at the city’s downtown area. Fiasco Gelato is one vendors this summer joining TD Union Summer serving their delicious, sweet and dairy free gelatos and sorbettos. They have rotating flavours along with their pints available for purchase as well.

I was excited to stop by and sample and enjoy their dairy free Sorbettos during one of the weekends in July at TD Union Summer. I tried their Mango Pineapple Sorbetto flavour and loved the fresh and fruity summer mango and combined with pineapple flavour, it felt like I was in the tropics! It wasn’t too sweet either which is great that they have all natural ingredients and no added sugar, which is what I love about it!! If you stop by to sample their delicious and refreshing gelatos or sobrettos, a good info to know is that they do not take cash so you know, only debit and credit.

I loved the space that TD Union Summer created where they created an oasis type of backyard atmosphere with long wooden tables and chairs as if you were relaxing in your very own backyard, I love it!! In the middle of Toronto’s busy downtown core with amazing views of downtown, Rogers Centre, CN Tower and the city itself, you wouldn’t expect that type of atmosphere and beautiful interior and live music!

My Mango Pineapple sorbetto

If you have a chance to stop by the TD Union Summer, I definitely suggest you stop by and sample some of Fiasco Gelato delicious gelatos and sorbettos and enjoy the beautiful summer atmosphere in downtown Toronto. It was definitely worth it as I made more than one trip to sample their refreshing sweet sorbets as I wanted to sample other flavours before buying their pints in stores!!

Where To Buy

So for those who can’t go to the one retail location in Calgary or stop by the TD Union Summer this summer, you can always buy your very own pint at a local stores like Organic Garage, Metro, Loblaws, Whole Foods, and more near your city. Fiasco Gelato is available across Canada from Vancouver & Victoria, British Columbia to Winnipeg, Manitoba to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan to Montreal, Quebec & Quebec City to Toronto, Ontario to Edmonton, Alberta.
